President Barrow Visits Cashew Gam Company Limited in Brikama As part of his ongoing Meet the People’s Tour, His Excellency President Adama Barrow today visited Cashew Gam Company Limited, a Brikama based cashew processing enterprise founded in 2006 by Mr. Muhammed B. Kabba. Employing 62 staff, Cashew Gam is dedicated to empowering farmers and supply chains through fair trading practices and fostering economic development. The company’s unique social justice approach focuses on creating employment opportunities, improving living standards, and uplifting marginalized communities. Cashew Gam buys raw cashew nuts from approved farmers and processes them into premium, high quality cashew kernels. Packaged in 50 pound vacuum sealed bags that meet AFI standards, the kernels are prepared under strict hygienic conditions, ensuring they are safe and fit for purpose. President Barrow commended Cashew Gam for its efforts in supporting local farmers and contributing to national development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering initiatives that uplift Gambians and promote economic growth.

Transforming Lives Through Rural Electrification This year’s Meet-the-People Tour shines a spotlight on a remarkable achievement in The Gambia’s journey towards universal access to electricity. President Barrow has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to achieving nationwide electricity coverage by 2026, a target now closer than ever with the support of development partners. An example of this progress is the deployment of a solar-powered Green Mini Grid in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Located in Sare Demba Torro, the grid provides clean, reliable electricity to Sare Demba Torro, Sare Yororie, and Jamu Mballow—areas where connection to the national grid was once deemed impossible. This mini grid, powered by 120 solar panels, rechargeable batteries, and a hybrid inverter system, delivers UNINTERRUPTED electricity to over 2,000 households. Costing over $800,000, the project represents a significant milestone in The Gambia’s rural electrification initiative. For villagers who once saw electricity as a distant dream, this development is life-changing; sparking joy, enhancing livelihoods, and fostering economic growth.
