In 2018,?Bora Mazreku?transformed her small town of?Malisheve, #Kosovo, by founding?Bardha's Cake—a vibrant sweet shop ?? that broke traditional barriers and created opportunities for #women. Beyond business, Bardha’s mission is social #change: hiring and training women from rural areas, normalizing their roles in the workforce ?? and inspiring her community to embrace progress. In 2023, Bardha took her vision to the global stage by co-founding?Mind the Cake?in #London, offering refined sugar-free desserts while continuing to uplift marginalized women. Her success is built on #resilience, #mentorship, and a #commitment to learning, and her influence now extends far beyond her hometown. We are so thrilled to share that together with 9 other startups we have been selected to participate in LSE Generate’s Accelerator Program for 2024. The challenges of building a new business can sometimes make the journey feel isolating so embarking on this learning journey with other founders is refreshing and exciting. Last week, I had the chance to meet Sarah Willingham, a serial entrepreneur and former Dragon’s Den judge. Sarah was on the panel of the WBL programme sponsored by Santander and her advice on how to start and manage a business was immensely valuable. Something that stuck with me was her advice on the importance of recognizing our flaws, embracing them, and working alongside rather than against them. I also met the amazing social entrepreneur Lady Joyce Obaseki, whose business was awarded with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for the amazing work she’s done with Grant a Smile. As women, who are just starting their entrepreneurial life in the U.K, meeting such remarkable women is a reminder that with good intentions, one can thrive in any environment ?? Lady Joyce Obaseki
