My first product for Mindset & Milestones took two years, a full cartridge of my parents' printer ink, and $7 at Staples. But I made $400 from this sample. I didn’t know what to charge, I didn’t even know how I was going to print the 13 books the customer requested, but I knew I could figure it out. My students love it when I tell the story of my first sale because it’s very clear that I had no idea what I was doing ?? I have kept every iteration of our first workbooks because they’re a reminder of how #ideas evolve and grow just like people do. That’s the message I try to get across every time I share it and the kids always get it because it’s so tangible. You take all the abstract lessons that we’re trying to teach them, then you put something in front of them that makes it real. I believed this at the beginning and I know it as fact now. In reflecting, the one thing that has changed between these two photos is how I’ve grown in processing feedback for the gift that it is. There would be no version 2, 3 7, or 10 of any product that MEANT something if it wasn’t informed by the needs of the people who were supposed to use it. Every single iteration we’ve made, and every iteration we make going forward, will continue to be informed by the needs of #educators because that’s who we serve. Every day, I think about how we can be better, how I can better serve teachers, and how I can grow in my own journey as a problem-solver. Today, my new product on the right still aims for the same mission: improving student engagement and connecting the classroom to the real world. ??
