Minds Matter connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. As the educational achievement gap persists, Minds Matter is making college access a reality for its students through dynamic programs provided almost entirely by volunteers. We provide critical resources including mentoring, SAT/ACT test preparation, summer programs, and math and writing instruction to students. We are proud to say that 100% of Minds Matter students have been accepted into four-year universities and many alumni attribute their success to Minds Matter.

This #InternationalDayofEducation, we’re grateful for our incredible partnership with NBCUniversal. Thank you, Hilary Smith, for your support, and Lora Dennis for your leadership as a Board member! Through programs like the Media Fellows workshop and Creative Impact Lab, NBCUniversal has made a lasting impact on chapters like Minds Matter Colorado, Minds Matter NYC, Minds Matter Southern California, and Minds Matter Boston.
Education isn’t just about cultivating knowledge in young people; it’s about empowering them to use it. On this #InternationalDayofEducation, I want to highlight Minds Matter, a nonprofit which has benefited from our philosophy of not being just a grantee but a true partner. The cornerstone of this partnership is the Media Fellows program, a multi-day workshop where Minds Matter students learn practical skills like marketing, pitching, and public speaking with support from NBCUniversal mentors. Since the launch of the program in 2019, 450+ students and 1,400+ employees have participated. The company has also provided NBCU executives to the Minds Matter Board who have participated in NBCU’s signature board service training program. Additionally, we helped raise awareness for Minds Matter -- NBCU’s Creative Impact Lab produced PSAs for the organization that ran across NBCU and Comcast platforms.
