Monster Hunter Wilds Joins the Ultra-Elite 20M Club! ?? During launch week, Monster Hunter Wilds hit 22M global searches, a milestone only reached by games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and Diablo IV - all of which went on to sell 20M+ copies. Will Wilds follow the same path? ?? On Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds peaked at 1.38M concurrent players, capturing 3.4% of all active users at that moment - strong, but not quite the viral takeover of Palworld (6.2%) or Black Myth: Wukong (6.4%). Meanwhile on TikTok, Monster Hunter Wilds saw 155M views last week, pushing total views past 500M - a strong start but still trailing recent mega-hits. ??Hot Games This Week (Feb 24 - Mar 2, 2025) Monster Hunter Wilds | Pokémon Go | Pokémon Z-A | Honkai: Star Rail Pokémon TCG Pocket | PUBG: Battlegrounds | World of Warcraft | EA FC Mobile | League of Legends | Monster Hunter World | Umamusume: Pretty Derby | The Sims 4 | ULTRAKILL | GeoGuessr | Mobile Legends: Bang Bang | Garena Free Fire MAX | Garten of Banban 0 | R.E.P.O. With just a few days to launch, how is Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds Tracking? We guarantee it will be in the Top 5 of all Action RPGs released in the last 5 years. It will be in the top 3% of ALL game releases in the last 5 years. While not quite as hyped as Cyberpunk 2077, Diablo IV, and Elden Ring, Monster Hunter Wilds is about to become the biggest game of 2025 (until you-know-who drops later this year).

Electronic Arts (EA) and Hazelight Studios' Split Fiction is launching in less than a month. The studio's previous release, It Takes Two, sold around 1M copies in its launch month and has since accumulated more than 20M copies with a strong and steady burn, including inclusion in Game Pass and PS+. Comparing -4 weeks pre-launch, Split Fiction is consistently seeing 3-4x more search interest than It Takes Two. If Split Fiction sustains/increases marketing push and leans into launch, it is likely to outperform It Takes Two in the launch window. The 3-year long sales tail is another story but Hazelight Studios' playbook has been working so far.

Great tips from Chris Heintz for modern game marketing and research
I help game studios self-publish | Community-driven go-to-market strategy & execution | Co-founder of Ignition Facility
I’ve noticed a few common ‘side quests’ that game studio leaders tend to care WAAAY too much about (IMO at the expense of more effective publishing execution). #1: ?? Websites. Your custom-made website replete with embedded videos in gorgeous parallax will not make a difference. No one goes to websites anymore. Focus on the platforms that matter (storefronts, social media, search), and lower the scope of your web dev…by a lot. I’m begging you. #2: ?? Media Relations. The role of the media has unfortunately shifted, and it takes more effort to generate great coverage, and that coverage produces less results. Still important, but I see a lot of leaders chasing PR as if it’s the end-all, be-all. #3: ?? IRL Events. They ARE great fun and can be worth it in the right context — but they’re also time and money vampires with an insanely small addressable audience. And everyone you send is gonna catch ebola. #4: ?? Analytics & Reporting. Don’t get it twisted: set goals and measure results, but be judicious. There’s a tendency to generate massive dashboards and reports that at best are ignored and at worst are weaponized. #5: ?? Expensive Market Research. Massive surveys and paid focus groups are usually just gonna give you a bunch of very expensive noise. Today’s social media algorithms are basically designed to test content resonance: use them. And take advantage of incredible free and cost-effective resources like GameDiscoverCo, How to Market a Game (Chris), mindGAME Data, and tools like FirstLook.gg and LIVE AWARE. If you disagree, im just joshin and/or im sorry #gamemarketing #gamepublishing #gamedev
