Are your kids using Snapchat? The in-app safety features like the Family Center are useful tools, but they are only half the battle against online dangers. Anna Minc reminds us that it's so important to have continuing conversations with your kids about internet safety, and to show up as a person that they can feel comfortable talking to if something happens online that doesn't feel right.

Lawyers, have you found an account impersonating you or your practice online? You may be wondering if you have an ethical obligation to remove the account. Sarah Kolick explains that you aren't required to remove these accounts, but it's in your best interest to do so, to protect the reputation you worked so hard to build. Minc Law can help. If you are having trouble with impersonation accounts scamming your potential clients, and causing them to leave bad reviews about you online, contact us to discuss your options for removing these accounts.

Aaron Minc, CEO of Minc Law, explains why defamation cases don't work on a contingency basis. One: these cases usually don't have ability to collect from the defendant. Two: there's no insurance. Three: money isn't the first priority of a defamation case. It's about repairing a reputation, first and foremost.

If your child uses Snapchat, doublecheck these settings we recommend to keep your child safe on the app. Minc Law's COO Anna Minc walks through different settings on Snapchat so you can follow along at home. As a mother working in internet law, Anna understands the importance of prioritizing online safety for your kids. Remember to have ongoing conversations to ensure your kids can come to you for help when something doesn't feel right online.

Can you sue someone who's anonymous? Attorney Sarah Kolick explains-- yes, you can. There is a subpoena process to the online platforms that can uncover data about the anonymous user. Unfortunately, people who want to be anonymous often go to great lengths to ensure they can't be uncovered. There is no guarantee we can identify an anonymous user every time. However, there are multiple methods of finding necessary data, and pursuing the legal relief you need.

The day I was fired from my first full-time job as an attorney, I sat frozen in my car, numb and humiliated. It had taken me over a year after graduating law school—during the depths of the Great Recession—to finally find any full-time position, and now it was gone after just 30 days. The reality was, I had taken that job out of desperation. Despite doing well in law school, despite previously landing offers for coveted summer associate roles, I spent my first year as a lawyer working a part-time job reviewing contracts (for $18/hr), unable to find a single solid opportunity. I'd settled for a position that didn't even require a J.D..?????? Being let go felt like hitting rock bottom. I was deeply in debt, depressed, and becoming convinced I'd possibly made the biggest mistake of my life becoming an attorney. As I drove home, I dreaded telling my wife, Anna Minc what had happened. That night, as I sat staring blankly at dinner, she looked me directly in the eyes and said something I'll never forget: "Stop waiting for someone else to give you permission to be a lawyer." She was right. I'd been waiting—waiting for approval, validation, someone to tell me I was finally “ready.” But the truth was, I was already capable. I just had to start believing it. Rock bottom has a way of clarifying things. I started taking action immediately. In the next 90 days, everything changed: * I won my first jury trial—beating an attorney who'd been trying cases longer than I'd been alive. * I secured a position at a firm that recognized and valued my potential. * And perhaps most unexpectedly, I landed my first internet defamation client off of Craigslist (yes, Craigslist), laying the foundation for what eventually became Minc Law. Sometimes, the worst days lead directly to the best opportunities—if you're willing to step up, take ownership, and give yourself permission. If you've ever felt stuck, overlooked, or underestimated, remember this: Your future isn't decided by who believes in you. It's defined by how much you believe in yourself.
