Great healthtech event yesterday in SF, with so many interesting people - Thank you for having me!

Build tech products & communities in SF

As a 2x immigrant, now building tech in SF, the most rewarding part of being a founder is this: I'm surrounded by insanely smart people all the time. If you’re open-minded and ready to be out of your comfort zone most of the time, you can always find folks who will share their amazing experiences and let you learn from them. And that just helps you grow 10x faster - and feel 10x more pain, obviously (: That’s why together with Alena, we host meetups and invite the smartest founders we know - to make the density of cool folks around us even higher. It feels good and it's fun. This week, we ran two healthtech invite-only events. As always, some cool stuff came up yesterday: ^ 13 founders from Microsoft, Apple, UCSF, Stanford, IBM, IDEO. A few things stood out: ??founder using AI + personalized education + extremely deep industry expertise to help cardiac patients recover faster ? wearables that track biometrics & predict emotional arousal built by an evolutionary biologist ?? neuroscientist working on focused ultrasound (FUS) for neuro treatments ?? engineer-turned-investor (now in a $120M healthtech/edtech fund) ??tech founder turning?"sickcare" into affordable "healthcare", after building robots Yicheng Sun dropped in as a speaker -> sharp thoughts on design thinking in healthtech, AI and its long term implications in healthcare. Cheers to those who were with us! Christoph Dressel Yuxin Chen Yicheng Sun Dhawal Jain Cynthia Benjamin Matthew Delaney Uma Subramanian Sithu Win Anton Bereza @josh cain Melinda Yormick PS: If you’re working on something in healthtech, DM me for the next one.

"We have stone-age emotions, medieval institutions and god-like technology." Edward O. Wilson said this in 2009 - consider: - the stunning scientific progress in life sciences and AI - the rise of populist movements all over the world - the unhindered acceleration of the climate crisis This is becoming more relevant by the day. ...no need to mention the miserable state of our health systems, jurisdiction, and education. Will technology eventually be able to save us from ourselves? Many AGI evangelists believe so. I do hope they are right ??

?????? ??????-?? ?????????? (????????????, ??????????????) ?????? ???????????????? ???? ?????? ???????????????????????? ????????????????? The concept of evolutionary mismatch is well understood. For most of human history, we lived in environments where food was scarce, so we evolved cravings for high-calorie, sugary, fatty, and salty foods. We also had to stay physically active to hunt and gather for survival. Fast forward to today, and our modern lifestyle—filled with sedentary behavior and easy access to food—stands in stark contrast. The result? An epidemic of obesity and diabetes. But there’s another side to this mismatch: our brain’s craving for distraction (https://lnkd.in/gXvrw6pY).?In the past, constant vigilance and regularly shifting attention were essential for survival. We’re also wired to seek novelty and small dopamine hits, likely a mechanism that once helped us explore new food sources and environments.? Today, social media exploits these tendencies with endless scrolling and notifications, feeding our need for stimulation but mostly to our detriment. Enter GLP-1 drugs. These medications have shown remarkable results in regulating appetite, insulin secretion, and blood sugar levels—offering a clear solution to our modern cravings for high-calorie foods. But the potential benefits might extend even further. Emerging research suggests (https://lnkd.in/gA_ezyUB) that newer GLP-1 receptor agonists (RAs) could help reduce cravings for substances like alcohol, nicotine, heroin, and fentanyl. It appears these drugs may help recalibrate our brain’s reward system, steering it back toward healthier patterns. So, will we all eventually take these drugs and become long-living, addiction-free superhumans? As someone working on a startup (mimo.fit) focused on accessible neurodegenerative care, I’ve been encouraged by studies showing that GLP-1 drugs may also slow the progression of conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.? The future looks promising indeed!
