This week, green schoolyards will be inaugurated at five more Milwaukee Public Schools thanks to Reflo, Inc. Green and Healthy Schools program in partnership with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). Check out the before and after images of each. https://lnkd.in/gZE-ggkF MMSD has been committed to green schoolyard redevelopments for many years as part of our stormwater management and resiliency goals. This work helps convert predominantly asphalt-paved schoolyards into green spaces and increases the community's exposure to and understanding of the ecological benefits of green infrastructure. #GreenSchoolyards #GreenAndHealthySchools #StormwaterManagement #GreenSpaces #EcologicalBenefits #GreenInfrastructure

关于我们
Protecting public health and the drinking water supply for millions of people takes the expertise of hundreds of specially skilled and dedicated employees. The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) is a highly regarded national leader in wastewater treatment, flood management, and green infrastructure. MMSD is a regional governmental agency serving over one million people in Greater Milwaukee. Our mission is to protect public health and the environment through world-class, cost-effective water resource management, leadership, and partnership. Join our diverse team and support your community while protecting our environment. A recipient of the U.S. Water Prize and many other awards, we are most proud of our record for capturing and cleaning 98.5% wastewater, since 1994, from our 29 communities in a 423-square-mile area. Many metropolitan areas struggle to capture and clean the national goal of 85% of all the rain and wastewater that enters their sewer systems.

MMSD celebrates a new partnership with the Electa Quinney Institute (EQI) of UW-Milwaukee this year! The focus of the Institute is to strengthen and celebrate American Indian education at the local, regional, and national levels with strong connections to Indigenous teaching practices around the globe. EQI students completed a summer internship program on MMSD Greenseams? sites and capped it off with presentations on topics including lichens, beavers, medicinal plants, SEWRPC inventories, corn, and native plants. This exciting new partnership facilitates educational opportunities for UW-Milwaukee students as well as the restoration of MMSD Greenseams? sites in alignment with Indigenous principles. A ribbon-cutting for the Becher St Overpass Project, one of four projects completed to date as part of the Green Highways initiative. Stormwater runoff from the highways is channeled through a variety of green infrastructure practices that will keep roadway pollutants from entering the waterway through stormwater runoff. Partners for this project include the WI Department of Transportation, the City of Milwaukee, and MMSD. https://lnkd.in/ggpQKhxD
