Founder/President of Ignite The Spirit MKE ? Fire Lieutenant for The Milwaukee Fire Department ? Milwaukee Business Journal 40 Under 40 ? Forward 48 Alum
In the fire service, "All Hands" is a term used to describe a situation where the incident is significant enough that it requires the use of all available personnel on the scene. Essentially, it's a call for maximum effort and participation from everyone on-scene to effectively manage and mitigate the incident. Ignite The Spirit- Milwaukee added our All Hands Initiative to our programming in 2019. We realized that if we were going to support Milwaukee-area firefighters and families in their times of need, that we needed to step up and support our firefighters in their darkest days, too. Originally, All Hands was established to provide immediate transportation for a firefighter in crisis to in-patient treatment centers across the country specifically for first responders. However, the reactive nature of the program prompted us to think further, especially following the addition of a brother’s name to our Milwaukee Fallen Firefighter Memorial last summer. This event deeply reinforced our resolve to enhance our support systems. Today, we are proud to announce a major expansion in our commitment to firefighter mental health. We are breaking down barriers and promoting early engagement with mental health professionals, fostering preventative relationships with therapists to address issues before they escalate. Ignite The Spirit-Milwaukee is thrilled to partner with First Responder Psychiatric Services to offer completely free and confidential therapy services to Milwaukee firefighters. This initiative could not have been realized without ‘All Hands’ working and the tireless commitment to the well-being of our firefighters by Milwaukee Fire Department Chief Aaron Lipski, Assistant Chief David Hensley, and MFD Health and Safety Manager Ali Ekman. Thanks to their invaluable support, this vision is now a reality, ensuring our firefighters have the support they need when they need it the most. NEW EPISODE: "Train Them and Tell Them You Love Them with Lts Kendria Donaldson and Jessica Ziems, MFD" This episode features two women who currently serve in the Milwaukee Fire Department—Lieutenants Kendria Donaldson and Jessica Ziems. Both started their firefighting journeys as Fire Cadets in 2013. The two-year program hires individuals between the ages of 17-19 and starts them on their firefighting career. They completed recruit class in 2015 and have been honing their firefighting and leadership skills in the Milwaukee FD since that time. Both attended the Leadership Under Fire Leadership Development Course at The Farm in the Fall of 2023 and offered a great deal of insight to the cohort.
