Our Mission The mission of the Mindfulness in Law Society (MILS) is to educate, coordinate and promote activities in the legal profession relating to mindfulness meditation, yoga, and other contemplative practices. What We Do MILS is the education and support hub for mindfulness in the legal profession, bringing together lawyers, law students, faculty, judges, and other legal professionals across the nation, and supporting their interests in mindful lawyering. We offer and share programming, resources and networking opportunities, including: national conferences, webinars, virtual sitting sessions, educational opportunities, practice area divisions, and state and local chapters. We also offer centralized resources for those who seek to create or enhance a mindfulness practice or program for themselves, their law firms, legal communities, and law schools. How are you handling the stress of election season? This isn't a question about how well you are doing it. I don't honestly think the evaluation of "how well" we handle stress is all that useful unless we are looking to improve on our practices. Instead, what I really mean is what is helping you handle the stress. Other than direct engagement with the process to use my voice, the two things that have helped me manage my outlook and stress this election season are: 1. Staying busy; and 2. Doing good things for other people. I have already voted and, as a school lawyer, most of my clients will be closed on Election Day. I knew that I needed something good and useful to do because, once voting is done, Election Day is a lot of waiting. If you have already voted and don't want to wait alone, I encourage you to join me and the Mindfulness in Law Society at 12 PM PST / 3 PM EST on Tuesday, November 5th on Zoom. (If you have not already voted, please get out there and do it!) This is free and open to all lawyers, law students and professors, and anyone who works for a law firm or in the legal profession. If you can't make it on Tuesday, my friend and highly experienced teacher Judi Cohen has agreed to take my spot for Wakeful Wednesday at 2 PM PST / 5 PM EST. Both practices will be focusing on self-compassion and self-acceptance for whatever emotions you might be feeling.
