You push through because you don’t want to seem difficult. After all, you need the job. But here’s the truth: Denying you legally required breaks isn’t just unfair—it’s?wage theft. And it happens more often than you think. Why Do Employers Do This? Because they’re counting on you?not knowing your rights. They know that: 1???Many employees won’t push back out of fear of retaliation. 2???A few minutes here and there might not seem like much—but across an entire workforce, it saves them?millions. 3???If you don’t document it, they can deny it ever happened. What Are Your Rights? ?? Meal Breaks:?In California, you must get an?uninterrupted?30-minute meal break for shifts over 5 hours. If you work over 10 hours, you’re entitled to a second one. If your employer makes you work through it, they?must?pay you an extra hour of wages. ?? Rest Breaks:?California law also requires?paid?10-minute breaks every 4 hours.
