Grant money is not free. If you spend too much time and too many resources on a single application, it becomes a self-defeating investment. Winning applications for competitive grants require enormous time and effort, and nothing is guaranteed, no matter how worthy your cause. To have a successful grant winning operation, you have to streamline your process: - Calculate the time and personnel cost to prepare a proposal - Make sure you don't have too many people working on the same proposal - Create a process that is easily replicable and applicable to future proposals If you want help from people who are already operating in a streamlined process, schedule a call with us today: https://lnkd.in/ejM55ZNz Read more about streamlining processes here: https://lnkd.in/gYzMhkj9

Every foundation has different submission requirements. They may ask for demographic information, tax documents, sustainability metrics, or lists of other funders. A common mistake many first-time grant writers make is in failing to honor the submission requirements. The person reviewing your proposal is likely volunteering or working on this outside of their normal hours, and they are definitely tired. Sifting through budgets and audits is few people's idea of a good time, even when it's important. Some things to remember when you are facing a character or word count: - Don't create strange abbreviations to sneak in more information - Don't write without spaces - Don't adjust the margins or font sizes to fit more words on the page - Revise your writing before you alter the formatting If you're tired of trying to fit your work into a foundation's requirements, schedule a call with us today, and let us prepare and submit on your behalf: https://lnkd.in/ejM55ZNz Read more about submission mistakes here: https://lnkd.in/gU5xT3jR

Many first-time grant writers obsess too much over the details of their organization's work. It's not that they don't matter, they just aren't always relevant to the proposal. Because space is always limited in some way, focusing on minor distinctions in your work is a poor allocation of words or characters. The more important thing is to focus on how your work connects to the funder's mission, purpose, and priorities. If you're meeting a critical community need, THAT should be your primary focus. Impress upon them the importance of your work, and if they are impressed, they can always ask you for clarifying details later. Get them excited about the big picture first before analyzing the brushstrokes. If you're not sure how to "sell" your organization to potential funders, we are happy to help, and you can schedule a free call with us: https://lnkd.in/ejM55ZNz Read more about avoiding distracting details here: https://lnkd.in/gXvt98ws

Foundations are requiring more data from their grant applicants than ever before. In response to this, some grant writers feel the need to update their data constantly, but this is (usually, unless explicitly specified) a mistake. Most funders want a general idea of your goals the people you serve. In most cases, sharing the same data with multiple funders is the right call. The key to avoiding many common mistakes in grant writing is simplifying: - Simplify who reviews grants - Simplify how you track and report data - Simplify your language - Simplify your application process - Simplify your focus If you want someone to make all of this simple for you, schedule a call with us here: https://lnkd.in/ejM55ZNz Learn more about sharing data with foundations here: https://lnkd.in/gYzMhkj9

When it comes to grant writing, there are many mistakes to avoid. They may be common to the reviewer, but if you've never written grants before, they won't be common to you! One of these common errors is overusing industry jargon. The technical language specific to your field may be easily understood to you, but it may not be to the person looking at your proposal. You don't want to put the responsibility for understanding your proposal on the person reading it. Remember: reviewers are tired. Only use jargon when absolutely necessary; otherwise, it just distracts from the message of your organization. If you need someone to help you bridge the gap between your expertise and the funding your organization deserves, schedule a call with my team: https://lnkd.in/eUk-vu8Q Read more about avoiding jargon here: https://lnkd.in/gDBr54Wj
