Millie believes in better maternity care for all.
关于我们
Millie is a new kind of maternity clinic, built by moms and healthcare providers who have been there. We bring together collaborative OB/Midwifery care in a modern, tech-enabled clinic model extended with virtual care & remote monitoring, to set a new standard of care that improve clinical outcomes and experiences from conception through the first year of parenthood. Our first clinic is open in Berkeley, CA, and accepts all major insurance plans including Medicaid. Virtual care services are also available nationally through our website. We can’t wait to meet you!

In what can only be described as a bizarre week in healthcare, I sat down with Maggie McGrath senior editor at Forbes and editor of ForbesWomen to discuss the consequences of the #Medicaid freeze-unfreeze whiplash on some of the most vulnerable mothers and their infants. Fact: Medicaid pays for more than 40% of births in the US. A majority of these are in places where few alternatives exist. This was a particularly bad decision.

Thank you Amina Niasse and Reuters for spotlighting the rapidly growing investment in the maternal health space in sync with patient demand and reimbursement shifts. Some numbers to back it all up — PitchBook data shows that investment was $306.5 million in 2023, a 700% increase from $38.1 million in 2018. Great to see Millie featured along with some of our team and patients. Thank you Alice Zheng for sharing your perspective too! #vc #maternalhealth #womenshealth #innovation #whitehouse

We get a lot of patient love and are thrilled when Millie babies pop in for a visit! But some moments are just special, and this photo capture shows one of them. Meet our Aqueelah Tillman APRN, MSN, BS, CNM/WHNP-BC who decided to become a midwife after a long career as a NICU nurse. Why? Because she wanted to serve her community and create healthier pregnancies through access to more & better care. Aqueelah joined Millie as a student midwife, and our clinical team collectively invested time to provide the mentorship needed to complete her training. This matters because we know culturally congruent care improves health equity & outcomes — but less than 5% of US midwives are people of color. In short, we need more of them. We are so proud of Aqueelah and grateful that Millie can be part of the solution. #womenshealth #midwives #acog #acnm #maternalhealth #blackmaternalhealth #whitehouse

Thank you to Mark Travers, Ph.D. at Forbes for featuring Millie's holistic 360 degree care model in this terrific piece that unpacks the clinical research around maternal mental health, highlights the role that psychosocial support + preparedness can play in reducing perinatal anxiety & depression, and provides practical strategies for pregnant families. TL;DR -- ? (1) Choose a care team that includes midwives & doulas ? (2) Embrace innovative models that use tech to provide more continuous 24x7 care between visits through connected devices, apps, and more ? (3) Actively seek out peer support groups that can help validate your lived experiences and give you practical tips in real time. #maternalmentalhealth, #maternalhealth, #womenshealth https://lnkd.in/gVSyn9cG

Strong support for #postpartum families is a topic close to my heart and something we strongly prioritize at Millie through home visits, proactive risk screenings, lactation care, postpartum support groups, app-based resources, and more. Talia Borgo CNM, WHNP, RN and I were thrilled to have the Emmy-winning Julian Glover, Anchor & Race/Culture Reporter at ABC News visit Millie to discuss first hand perspectives on the importance of #paidfamilyleave for the recovery needs of new parents, breastfeeding success rates, secure bonding, and infant health. Featured research by Maya Rossin-Slater of Stanford University School of Medicine notes that only 60% of U.S. workers are eligible for the Family Medical Leave Act, which provides just 12 weeks of job-protected, unpaid leave for new parents. Even fewer parents are eligible for paid leave. Given the diversity of the population we care for, we see this regularly at Millie. In healthcare we talk a lot about outcomes being driven by social determinants — paid family leave is an integral part of the solution for the most vulnerable families who feel intense pressure to return to work. In <2 years we have achieved many things at Millie -- rapid growth, positive economics, payor coverage across Commercial & Medicaid plans, actuarial ROI, an expanding list of health system partnerships, and tremendous patient love with 1000+ patients and 250 Millie babies so far. Earlier this week we released our first set of outcomes data on the Millie care model, and I couldn't be more proud of the team. Key highlights: + Lower c-section and preterm birth rates vs. national averages + Measured remission rates for maternal mental health + Positive actuarial ROI for payors through better outcomes + Reduction in near misses due to early detection and timely care + Lower costs of care delivery vs. current standard models In short, Millie's technology enabled, midwifery-led care model is good for patients, payors, and health systems....and it can solve growing care gaps in the face of major national OBGYN shortages. Much gratitude to all our investors who have believed in Millie's mission of building better maternity care for all. You make change possible. cc: TMV BBG Ventures, RH Capital, Ingeborg Investments, Joyance Partners, Looking Glass Capital, venn growth partners, Turner Novak, tristan walker, Rob Chess, Scott Belsky, Amy Kane, Talia Borgo CNM, WHNP, RN, Sarah Reynolds, Kimmie Carey, Patricia Bevitz, Teel Love, Shalini Shah, Terese Tatum
