The SEC fined four companies—Unisys, Avaya, Check Point, and Mimecast—nearly $7 million for failing to fully disclose the impact of the 2019-2020 SolarWinds cyberattack. The SEC’s allegations highlight the importance of transparency in cybersecurity risk reporting. With stricter SEC rules now in effect, companies must disclose major breaches within four days and update investors on cybersecurity risks annually.
