PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: C-TRAN O&M Facility Expansion (Clark County, WA) C-TRAN’s campus expansion in Vancouver, Washington, was a multi-phase project designed for efficiency, safety, and long-term operational success. Our team contributed structural engineering expertise for two key facilities: VEHICLE MAINTENANCE BUILDING (14,000 SF) * Sturdy concrete tilt-up design, built to withstand heavy transit operations * Houses up to six buses for fueling, washing, and maintenance * Engineered for continuous operation during construction OPERATIONS BUILDING (22,000 SF) * Showcases mass plywood panels (MPP) as an exposed interior roof structure * Provides a warm, inviting space for bus operators and staff training * Concrete masonry exterior blends with the campus architecture * Designed with sustainability and cost efficiency in mind This project is a testament to smart planning and innovative engineering, ensuring C-TRAN’s infrastructure supports its growing transit network. Bridging Borders: ADVANCING MASONRY DESIGN STANDARDS The structural engineering community thrives on collaboration, and a recent research initiative exemplifies just that. A joint Canadian-American effort brought together experts from across the industry to explore the harmonization of masonry design standards between the CSA S304-14 and TMS 402-16. This research, supported by leading organizations and institutions, analyzed key differences in material properties, load calculations, and structural design approaches. The findings offer valuable insights into how both nations can align their methodologies, fostering more efficient, economical, and resilient masonry construction. Miller Consulting Engineers is pleased that one of our own, Principal Engineer Lane Jobe, PE, SE, contributed to this important work.
