For this project, we worked closely with the client and Latta-Kennedy Builders to design a pool, terrace, and timber frame pool house that blends comfort, function, and craftsmanship. From the scenic door that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces to the cedar outdoor shower, every detail was designed for effortless relaxation. Warmer days are on the horizon. ?? Honoring Water Conservation Day ?? Long before modern sustainability practices, ancient India mastered water conservation through stepwells—also known as vavs or baolis. These architectural marvels, found in Gujarat and Rajasthan, were designed to store monsoon rains for year-round use, providing water in even the driest months. One of the most stunning examples is Rani ki Vav, a seven-story stepwell commissioned in the 11th century by Queen Udayamati. Beyond its functional brilliance, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, adorned with intricate carvings and cool subterranean spaces that once served as gathering places. At Millan Architects, we draw inspiration from such time-tested sustainability solutions, proving that architecture can be both beautiful and purposeful. ?? #WaterConservationDay #SustainableArchitecture #Stepwells #RaniKiVav #ArchitecturalInnovation

Ever wonder what the world looks like from the treetops? Welcome to the Birdhouse at Longwood Gardens. ???? Inspired by steel forest fire towers, this elevated treehouse spirals around a majestic tulip poplar, offering a bird’s-eye view of the landscape below. As visitors ascend, they experience the changing perspective of the forest, moving from the rooted strength of the tree trunks to the open canopy above. This space is a perch, yes, but it also tells the story of a tree’s life cycle, from its towering presence to its eventual return to the forest floor. Every detail, from live-edge benches to handcrafted door pulls, celebrates the beauty of natural materials and the passage of time in the woods. Millan Architects, was honored to be part of designing this space two premier treehouse companies. Have you been to the Birdhouse? Happy Presidents' Day! Let’s take a moment to admire the architectural legacy of the White House—a global symbol of democracy and one of the most renowned examples of neoclassical architecture in the United States. ?? The Design: The White House was designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban, who drew inspiration from classical antiquity. His neoclassical design reflects the aesthetic principles of order, proportion, and scale found in ancient Greek and Roman architecture. With its grand columns, symmetrical geometric forms, and refined ornamental details, the White House is a textbook example of neoclassicism architecture in early America. ?? The History: In 1792, President George Washington and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson launched a national competition to determine the design of the executive mansion. Hoban’s vision was chosen from the submissions, and the structure we know today was brought to life. Although French architect Pierre Charles L’Enfant had proposed a much larger design, Hoban's more modest yet elegant approach became a defining part of America’s architectural identity. This Presidents Day, let’s reflect not only on leadership but also on the architectural heritage that frames our nation’s story. #PresidentsDay #ArchitecturalLegacy #MillanArchitects
