Are you making confident decisions, or emotional reactions when it comes to your money? We all agree that there is a severe lack of knowledge about personal finance education in our society as a whole, not just the military. Even the Pentagon's most senior leadership has recognized that this is a serious issue that affects the readiness of the services, which is why they've been forced to address the issue. But here's the thing... 1??Their primary focus is on fighting and winning America's wars, not teaching you how to build wealth. 2??Any training that service members are required to complete just becomes another "check in the box" 3??The training is designed specifically for the service member, not the spouse who usually handles the family's finances. By themselves, each one of these factors are bad enough, but when you add them up together, what do you get? Exactly what you'd expect...the appearance of something being done, instead of something actually being done. That's not good enough. My name is Trevor Maxwell, and during my 20+ naval career, I witnessed countless opportunities being squandered by people because of bad personal finance decisions. When I look back, I realized that a lot of these scenarios occurred mostly as a result of two factors: ??People don't understand how money works. ??They don't have anyone they can trust to help guide their financial decision-making. That was my inspiration behind creating Military Money Mistakes, a podcast and social media platform centered around education on personal finance, and the unique opportunities available for service members, veterans, and their families.
