Born in West Virginia in 1918, Katherine Johnson graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia State College at the age of 18, earning degrees in mathematics and French. She was one of three students selected to desegregate West Virginia University's graduate program. After graduation, she began her career as a mathematician at NASA. Johnson played a key role in several historic missions, including calculating the trajectory for Alan Shepard's 1961 flight, verifying calculations for John Glenn's 1962 orbital mission, and determining trajectories for the Apollo 11 moon landing. Her contingency calculations helped ensure the safe return of the Apollo 13 crew. Her work on these programs at NASA inspired the 2016 movie "Hidden Figures." Throughout her 33-year career, Johnson authored groundbreaking research and advanced the field of mathematics at NASA. A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, she lived to the age of 101, leaving behind a legacy of talent, courage, and innovation. #WomensHistoryMonth #KatherineJohnson #NASA

Milhouse is replacing the outdated fire alarm system at Avondale-Logandale High School to comply with CPS safety standards and Chicago building codes. Given the limited space and logistical challenges in the annex building, we are thoroughly assessing the current fire alarm system, performing demolition as necessary, and installing a new system with minimal disruption to school operations. When completed, the school will have a fully updated, code-compliant fire alarm system that will be safer for students and staff. #MilhouseProjectSpotlight #MEPFacilities #Safety
