The Milacron Advanced Manufacturing Academy (AMA) students at Grant Career Center in Southwest Ohio have made impressive progress in the first few months of their school year, including the assembly of an entire Q-Series injection molding machine! They are nearly halfway to their intended goal - to be equipped to start their lifelong careers in manufacturing upon graduation in the spring! During their recent module report-outs this week, the high school seniors, and their instructor - tenured Milacron associate, Rodney Hayslip - spoke of all they’ve accomplished since August: ??Created an effective parts inventory process. ??Developed work instructions for every completed process the “Milacron way,” with successful repeatability. ??Learned the basics of pneumatics, hydraulics, electricity, and reading blueprints. ??Built the clamp end and injection unit of the machine and attached both to the base. ??Wired the machine’s platform frame and much more! Now that the multi-purpose, 55-ton IMM is built, their next task will be a successful run-off next week, followed by producing plastic parts before their first semester ends in a month. The new year will not only deliver the class an opportunity to get their hands on the all-electric Roboshot machine that’s also in their lab space but to properly disassemble the Q-Series machine, just as they would in the real-world setting in advance of shipment to the customer. #ShapeWhatMattersForTomorrow?

Happy National STEM Day! Earlier this week we joined our community partner, the American Heart Association (AHA), for its annual Stem Goes Red event at the Cincinnati Museum Center, where young female attendees gained firsthand experience connecting with inspiring female professionals from across the Southwest Ohio region to learn about careers in various STEM fields. Our Milacron breakout session featured subject matter experts in plastics, Courtney West and Hayley Jewell, alongside a sampling of plastic applications our machines produce, as well as mixed virtual reality (MVR) technology where the students experienced a Milacron injection molding machine up close and personal!
