@UNDPinSierraLeone with funding from European Union in Sierra Leone awarded grants totalling $500,000 and signed agreements with 2 Fintech firms to develop financial products and 5 incubators to support informal enterprises & entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone. Congratulations to MiKashBoks and SmartSystems ,for receiving a grant of $150,000 each to create innovative financial products for informal businesses and encourage their formalization. InnovationSL , @Projects1835, eWomenSierraLeone #lifebydesignsl, and Creative Hub Africa are the five incubators , awarded $40,000 to support start-ups and early-stage innovators. The grants are awarded through the "Supporting Informal Enterprises Transition Towards Sustainable Growth and Formalization,” project , implemented with @Ministry of Trade and Industry Sierra Leone UNDP in Sierra Leone and International Labour Organization.

MiKashBoks, the award-winning digital savings app, with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) are delighted to announce a partnership contract, in collaboration with Sierra Leone Chamber for Agribusiness Development (SLeCAD). Over 9 months, we'll be working with smallholder farmers to digitise approximately 80 of their community saving groups in rural areas. The saving group members will be able to use the MiKashBoks app to save and borrow with their group, build a financial profile and get connected to financial institutions providing products tailored to their specific needs. Freetown trip notes #2 - Big highlight of this trip was meeting with the incredible Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, the Mayor of Freetown. We discussed how MiKashBoks can work with the Freetown City Council to support their goal of creating 120,000 dignified jobs by 2028, in particular with their focus on the Digital Economy. We will be rolling out the app to market traders (there are at least 20,000 in Freetown alone!) as a better way of saving the cash they make in their businesses and providing access to financial services to help them grow.

The kekeh in front is MiKashBoks! Great to be back in Freetown (all too briefly). I was taking a video of driving through a market and happened to catch this - one of the kekehs (tuk-tuks) that MiKashBoks has sponsored as we build our brand in the country. Also been progressing partnerships with banks and other organisations (more to follow on that) as well as spending time with the great team we're building here. Anyone who knows me is aware that presentation skills is a topic close to my heart, so I inflicted a presentation skills workshop on them (some unsuspecting victims!) - but it was GREAT. Really impressed at how quickly everyone picked up the key concepts and started putting them into practice with presentations they'll be doing to the various communities we're working with.
