Mii is one of 30 female-led startups selected to pitch at the FEMALEFOUNDED Conference at Princeton University. I'll be representing Mii on November 16th, and I couldn’t be prouder of the Mii team.

Jennifer Tan is a frontend software developer at Mii. She is in her final year of studying Computer Science and Design at the University of Sydney, currently completing her Honors degree in Computer Science. Originally from Indonesia, Jennifer has a deep passion for community service, which began when she co-founded a non-profit organization in her home country, raising funds during the COVID-19 pandemic. With prior experience as an intern at Google, Jennifer is eager to leverage her commitment to social impact, technology, and innovation in her role at Mii, where she aims to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to the healthcare community.

Lawrence Shen is a software developer at Mii, originally from Taiwan, with a deep passion for healthcare technology. He is currently pursuing a degree in Software Engineering and Project Management at the University of Sydney, where he combines his technical skills with a drive to create impactful solutions that benefit society. While studying at the University of Sydney, Lawrence contributed to a research project focused on evaluating the effectiveness of healthcare technologies, including Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and predictive models, for CT imaging. This experience ignited his passion for healthcare innovation and reinforced his commitment to developing technologies that enhance patient care and improve medical outcomes.

Ethan Tien is the Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of Mii, as well as a final-year Pharmacy student at the University of Sydney. His passion for developing comprehensive medical records is rooted in his experiences across both community and hospital settings. In these roles, he observed the challenges interdisciplinary teams face in compiling a patient’s complete medical history—an essential factor in delivering timely and effective care. Ethan’s leadership within the fields of medicine and pharmacy has been recognized through his contributions and presentations at various conferences.

We're excited to kick off our team introductions with Laura Wegner, the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Mii. Laura is currently in her final year at Harvard University, where she is pursuing a degree in Economics and Computer Science. Mii was inspired by Laura's personal experience as a patient—after a sports injury led to a medical error that prevented her full recovery, she saw the need for patients to have immediate access to their complete medical histories. This experience motivated her to create a solution that empowers patients to manage their health data, ensuring better continuity of care and allowing patients to take a more active role in their health journey. Before founding Mii, Laura launched a nationwide tutoring platform in Germany, providing subsidized tutoring to high school students during the Covid-19 lockdowns. She also helped scale an Australian startup from its early stages to 60,000 users.

My co-founder, Ethan Tien, had the honor of pitching Mii at the 2024 Pharmacy Conference at the University of Sydney in front of 200 students and professors. Alongside startup programs at Harvard University, the University of Sydney has been instrumental in opening a significant number of doors for Mii. Building on Mii’s success from winning the Sydney Innovation Awards last year, our journey has been further propelled by the opportunities offered through Genesis (USYD), the University of Sydney’s leading startup accelerator program. Showcasing Mii, one of our G33 startups that will be pitching at the Genesis Finale Night on 28 May: Mii is the passport for your health, allowing doctors to access all your past and current medical information in our Electronic Health Records system, while offering you as a patient a consolidated view of your medical data. Revolutionising patient data protection, Mii stores personal identifiable information on a private blockchain along with the key that leads to the location of the remainder of the data that is conventionally encrypted. The co-founders of Mii are Ethan Tien and Laura Wegner. Ethan is a Pharmacy student at the University of Sydney and Laura is a Computer Science and Economics student at Harvard University. Mii’s recent successes include winning the Best Social Impact Startup Award and the People’s Choice First Prize at the Student Innovations Award at The University of Sydney. Mii also received funding from the Harvard Innovation Labs, the Harvard HealthLab accelerator, and Mii partnered with the Harvard Law Entrepreneurship Project to receive free legal assistance on incorporation strategies and regulations related to data privacy. Most recently, Laura was announced a Roberts Family Technology Fellow at Harvard Business School, which will provide $12,000 AUD for full-time work on Mii in the upcoming months. #USYD #SIE #Genesis

During my junior year at Harvard University, Mii was privileged to be a part of the Harvard HealthLab Accelerator. This experience was invaluable as we received mentorship from Gabriel Seidman, DrPH and had the opportunity to engage with a wider network of HealthLab mentors, including Mark McGarry, who offered crucial feedback on our pitch.
