In addition to hosting the summit, Emerging Talent runs its flagship program: the Certificate in Computer and Data Science. This program empowers forcibly displaced individuals by providing access to MITx coursework, skills development, experiential learning opportunities and access to mentorship. Brighter Futures: Enhancing Employability and Dignity for Refugee Youth in the Digital and Music Industries in Kenya ?? On July 19, 2024, Samuel Hall and Kumbatia Africa Peace Festival hosted an impactful event in #Nairobi, focused on enhancing the employability and dignity of refugee youth in the digital and music industries. As part of the #MigrationSummit 2024, the event emphasized the transformative power of culture, art, and technology in providing pathways for self-reliance and inclusion. The event explored the digital economy as a growing opportunity for refugee youth in #Kenya, despite legal and economic barriers. Through initiatives like Youth Voices Community’s DIGIKAZI programme, participants were introduced to digital skills training, mentorship, and tools to navigate the gig economy. Samuel Hall also announced upcoming advocacy efforts to push for policy changes that would remove obstacles to refugee participation in the digital job market. The participants in the event also highlighted the potential of music and spoken word to empower refugee artists. Key discussions centered around the need for legal protections, mentorship, and access to resources to ensure fair treatment and sustainable careers in the music industry. ?? Empowering Refugee Youth in Mexico: Interactive Workshop on Labor Integration ?? On July 22, 2024, USCRI Latin America and the Caribbean #Mexico hosted an interactive workshop at Hacienda Los Pavorreales, Aguascalientes. The event aimed to support refugee youth in their journey toward labor integration, bringing together over 35 participants, including Mexican and refugee students from various countries. The workshop featured a roundtable discussion, where participants shared their experiences with job searches, work modes, and the value refugees bring to the workforce. The sessions also explored practical strategies for resume writing, understanding the rules of the job market, and rediscovering personal talents. The event closed with resume tips, providing students with valuable tools to confidently navigate the labor market. ??
