Last weekend, Mon Ocampo, Jorge Reyes, and I presented our poster, “Youth-Led Participatory Approaches to Community Action Research” at the National Latinx Psychological Association (NLPA) conference in Puerto Rico! The theme this year of "Weaving a Community-Engaged Psychological Science" aligns with our goals of working alongside im/migrant communities in Philadelphia to uplift their voices and center their lived experiences for recommendations to improve public mental health services. We had the opportunity to share about our collaborative and community-engaged research approaches including our youth co-researcher model, mental health circles, processes of trust-building, and lessons learned from our experiences conducting participatory research. We had the opportunity to attend inspiring workshops, roundtables, and presentations related to Latinx community well-being. We learned the importance of humility while working alongside communities and centering community knowledge and solutions for their most pressing challenges. We also had team bonding opportunities including a roundtrip 5-mile hike to El Yunque Peak, a trip to Luquillo beach, and exploring Old San Juan! We are grateful to Nationalities Service Center, and our funders, Stoneleigh Foundation, Philadelphia Health Partnership, and Eidos Penn that made this trip possible! #NLPA2024 #ParticipatoryResearch #YouthMentalHealth
