  • Are you an undergraduate interested in writing about the pressing legal, political, and societal issues of our time? Want to reach a national audience of readers from a rigorous, nonpartisan platform? Consider applying to become a Staff Writer at MC. Applications are now open for our summer/fall recruitment cycle. Visit https://lnkd.in/eGdTRkPF to learn and read more. Midwestern Citizen is an undergraduate legal/political op-ed publication present at top universities across the Midwest, Great Plains, and adjacent areas. MC is an independent, inter-university student organization. Positions are not paid, as staff are most akin to “club members” at a more typical university club. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns regarding our organization. This is a great opportunity for students to practice and hone in skills in argumentative writing, policy analysis, and the synthesis of complex legal and political issues. #writeforus #resumebuilder #writing #editing #experience #apply

Article Link: https://lnkd.in/guymhgYX Long-time Staff Writer Sam Peterson spearheads an increasingly unpopular stance in favor of standardized testing being used as a metric for college applicants. Sam contends that alternative metrics often proposed to replace these tests can be equally or more biased against disadvantaged students, among other points: ? All admissions criteria tend to favor wealthy students ? Standardized tests can sometimes increase diversity in admissions ? Qualitative metrics may introduce more bias than standardized tests ? The real issues lie deeper in the education system and societal inequalities We commend Sam for tackling this controversial topic head-on and offering his unfiltered perspective. What are your thoughts on standardized testing in college admissions? #HigherEducation #CollegeAdmissions #StandardizedTesting #EducationEquity

Ecstatic to share that I have taken on a new role as Editor-in-Chief of the Midwestern Citizen student publication. In this position, I will be leading our talented team of writers and editors, shaping the editorial vision, and guiding the strategic direction of the publication. I'm honored to have this opportunity to build upon the great work of my predecessors (James Suarez and David J.) and take Midwestern Citizen to new heights. My top priority will be upholding our commitment to insightful analysis on law, policy, and society while amplifying diverse perspectives and voices. Other priorities will be increasing staff engagement as well as social media engagement. I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated constituents as we tackle important issues and continue providing a platform for engaging discourse. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to get involved or learn more about Midwestern Citizen. It's going to be an exciting journey!
