MidwestCon: where policy meets innovation and tech fuels social impact. In partnership with the University of Cincinnati, we connect builders, innovators, and policymakers to drive economic and social impact. The conference is from September 4-6 and focuses on the following areas: Future of Data Hackathon The Future of Data Hackathon is a unique opportunity to join hundreds of forward-thinking builders and students from the Midwest and Ohio. The event features workshops and expert speakers and mentors from Google, Microsoft, Piceses For Developers, Fifth Third Bank, AWS, and others sharing their knowledge. It's your chance to collaborate with Founders, Corporations, and emerging tech companies and shape the future of AI, blockchain, and data visualization. Participating schools include UC, Ohio State, Purdue, and others. With over 10,000 prizes and cash up for grabs, this week-long hackathon is a must-attend event, whether you're a coding expert or just starting. Artistic Intelligence The real AI is not artificial intelligence; it's artistic intelligence. AI is a tool that should be shaped by the artists, the builders, the creators, or the curators. It's about empowering humanity & authenticity. Areas of focus include The Future of Marketing & branding Creator ownership and rights in the age of AI User-centered design Policy Innovation Policy and regulation have never mattered more in the current age of technological advancements. Open discussions and authentic collaborations are necessary to connect the best people in policy with the builders of our future. Areas of focus include Responsible AI- national expert panels and workshops on how transparent and trustworthy AI will mean more growth and opportunities. Data privacy and Digital Safety- how data privacy and digital safety affect our most vulnerable populations and strategies for protecting our children and other vulnerable populations. Must say...MidwestCon 2024 REALLY stood out as a powerful gathering of leaders and innovators at the intersection of tech and social impact. Hats off to Rob Richardson and team for catalyzing deep, meaningful discussions on AI, blockchain, digital literacy, and more. This year’s event also felt like a “coming of age” moment for the University of Cincinnati’s vision to serve as as a breakthrough innovation catalyst. The 1819 Innovation Hub truly came alive in ways I had never experienced before. I had the honor of moderating a panel called “Data, Diversity & Destiny: Charting Growth through Inclusive Marketing” with Betty Rodriguez-Hakes, Jennifer Fairchild, and ??Khalil El-Amin El-Amin of Nichefire. We covered a range topics such as the potential for AI to be the “great equalizer” (both Betty and Khalil have excellent summaries on LinkedIn), but what resonated most deeply with me was the speakers' dinner. During a round-robin discussion, attendees shared personal reflections on what "keeps them up at night." I've distilled these insights into eight key areas that demand our collective leadership and entrepreneurial energy. Entrepreneurs, policymakers, and change-makers should pay close attention. (BTW…thanks Mayer Aftab Pureval for your engagement. Also to JobsOhio for active presence and sponsorship.) - Education and Digital Literacy: Expanding equitable access to tech skills and resources. - Entrepreneurial Equity: Providing resources and capital to diverse founders. - Sustainability and Environmental Impact: Using technology to tackle global sustainability challenges. - Data Security and Privacy: Navigating the growing threats in a data-driven world. - Job Displacement and Workforce Readiness: Preparing for the disruption AI brings to jobs. - Social Inequality and Inclusion: Ensuring technology reaches and benefits all communities. - Ethical AI Development: Developing responsible AI that is transparent and fair. - Mental Health and Technology's Impact: Addressing the emotional toll of a hyper-digital world. Many of these themes are close to my heart and daily work. At Cintrifuse, I spent the latter part of my tenure focused on whether AI could be a "great equalizer" by providing free or low-cost tools to entrepreneurs—something we tested rigorously with NITRO! Bootcamp (thanks to Maurice E. Coffey, II and Christopher Brock). Later, in co-founding the Cincinnati AI Catalyst with Carl Fraik and others, we're further exploring building an even stronger pillar around “Responsible AI.”? Now, with BrandRank.AI .AI, whose motto is "Prompting Your Brand Truth," we're analyzing brands through AI's infinitely revealing "transparency" lens on both straightforward (e.g. product performance, service) and more complicated (e.g. sustainability, diversity, supply chain, privacy) issues.
