All organizations are receiving the support specifically for programs that empower women and girls right here in Herkimer and Oneida Counties. Today, we took our Adult Students to The View Museum where they got creative with fun shirt painting and pottery making, including crafting their very own pumpkins! ???? In what was the most rewarding collaboration I have put together since joining Boy Scouts of America eight years ago, the first of four "Adventure Day" camps for approximately 200 economically disadvantaged youth took place yesterday. This one was for youth invited by Herkimer County Connected Community Schools and was funded by the EDWIN J WADAS FOUNDATION INC. Thanks to the INDIUM CORPORATION AND MACARTNEY FAMILY FOUNDATION INC, we are also sending two groups to Camp Kingsley this year (Utica's refugee center and MIDTOWN UTICA COMMUNITY CENTER). Additional camperships were also awarded from this fund to Scouts from Utica, Rome, and Clinton, NY. The Barnes family has also generously funded a fourth camping experience for youth invited by Madison County's Department of Social Services. Another 140 summer camperships were kindly awarded to deserving youth in Otsego and Delaware counties by The SCRIVEN FOUNDATION and the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O'Connor Foundation. Getting deserving children out to camp and introducing them to the great outdoors is really something that changes worldviews, forever. They're trying new activities and making lifelong friendships!
