??Light the Sixth Project - Midtown BID, in partnership with Councilwoman Saro, AOC7, Public Works, and the Long Beach Police Department walked the Anaheim St corridor on Wednesday, April 24th looking for broken streetlights and other areas to illuminate. Midtown BID’s goal is to ensure our district is bright and safe! Massive thanks to these wonderful people for their amazing support! We're thrilled to announce Avis Atkins McPhail as the new Executive Director of the Midtown Business Improvement District ??! A dedicated Long Beach native, Avis has devoted her career to fighting poverty and empowering our community. Avis's impressive educational background includes triple majors in Psychology, Sociology, and Human Development from California State University Long Beach, where she graduated cum laude. She furthered her education with graduate degrees in Education and Business from Harvard University, demonstrating her deep commitment to leadership and continuous learning. Throughout her career, Avis has served on several impactful boards, including the Ocean Residents Community Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Leadership Long Beach. She also plays a vital role on the Marine Advisory Commission, showcasing her dedication to both community and environmental issues. Her commitment to social change is highlighted by her establishment of the Ronald Atkins Memorial Scholarship at CSULB, which supports students facing housing insecurity. This initiative earned her the inaugural 49 under 49 award from CSULB, recognizing her as a leading young alumni. Avis currently resides in Downtown Long Beach with her husband, Brian, where she continues to be an engaged and influential community member.
