Many women are not aware of the latest research regarding the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopause symptoms. Many healthcare providers aren’t either. Menopause expert Kelly Casperson, MD recently talked with Midi Chief Medical Officer Kathleen Jordan, MD and laid out her theory as to why this is the case. Numerous studies have demonstrated local vaginal estrogen is safe and effective for managing multiple menopausal symptoms. However, the product comes with multiple warnings on the label. The problem: They’re inaccurate. These risks are associated with systemic estrogen (the type absorbed throughout the body) and don’t apply to topical vaginal estrogen. Not only are these labels outdated, but they may deter physicians from prescribing this valuable treatment and discourage women from using it. At Midi, we believe it’s time for a change.
