Thrilled to have attended the Midwest KY SHRM annual conference, where leadership and servant leadership were front and center! A huge thank you to Sean Georges for an impactful presentation. We explored the true essence of leadership—what it is, and what it isn’t—while learning how to balance management with leadership responsibilities. Through real-world scenarios, we gained insight into how leading as a servant with a mission focus can transform our teams, workplaces, and even our lives. Thank you to Baptist Health Deaconess for hosting us. #midwestkyshrm #development #leadership

KYSHRM's Statement on National SHRM's Recent Decision: ? KYSHRM believes in creating better Kentucky workplaces, where employers and employees thrive together. Our mission is to promote the advancement of HR by supporting our local chapters, energizing and engaging members, and collaborating as a State Advocate with external partners. Advocating for key HR initiatives and advancing the HR profession impacts the bottom line of Kentucky employers. In February 2024, KYSHRM reinforced that we strive to engage and empower diverse creativity as we navigate the evolving world of work. KYSHRM promotes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and we are committed to fostering a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within our organization and in workplaces across Kentucky. ? In July 2024, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announced that it would remove the word "Equity" from its DEI strategy. SHRM stated that it would now be using the acronym "I&D" to focus on inclusion and diversity, while embedding equity within the heading of inclusion. SHRM stated that this strategy was to address the shortcomings of current DEI programs within organizations. ? On behalf of KYSHRM and its Member Chapters, we would like to state that we are not in support of this move by SHRM. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives are critical for fostering a fair and inclusive workplace. Equity remains a key initiative that must not be compromised. Removing or diminishing the focus on equity from organizations' DEI efforts undermines the effectiveness of these initiatives and continues inequalities that have been present for a long time. Embedding Equity within Inclusion dilutes what many HR professionals have been advocating—addressing the needs of underrepresented and marginalized groups. It is critical to ensure that employees have the resources needed to succeed. It is equity that provides strength to DEI efforts, encouraging organizations to take action to address the disparity that has been in existence within the workplace. ? Equity focuses on employees being provided the tools that they need to have a level playing field to reach their full potential. The focus is on strengthening and fostering fairness and a sense of belonging which leads to increased employee engagement.?When employees in marginalized and underrepresented groups feel that they have the same equal opportunity for advancing their careers and that their opinions and contributions are recognized, they become more engaged with an organization's success. KYSHRM believes that it is essential to incorporate equity into HR processes to advance accessibility and belonging. We continue to support having a DE&I Director who will keep equity at the forefront of our initiatives, with the goal of continue to building diverse and inclusive workplaces. ? Patricia Williams, KYSHRM President Tiffany Ramos Cardwell, KYSHRM Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
