Heavy timber framing has been used since the Bronze Age. It also supported the great halls of medieval Europe and sheltered shrines and temples that still stand in the Far East. As illustrated by surviving timber-framed buildings more than 1,000 years old, the robust nature of timber lasts over many generations, leaving an enduring legacy. In our latest blog post, we explore the benefits of a total timber build. https://brnw.ch/21wOXvU #Timber #ThinkWood #SustainableConstruction

Nearly a decade has passed since the construction of this arena, and it remains as stunning today as it was then. The beauty of these glue-laminated timber arches by Mid-Atlantic Timberframes is unmatched, and their structural strength ensures that equestrians will enjoy the arena for generations to come. Windows that open like garage doors were installed along the sides, offering protection from the elements while allowing riders the option to enjoy fresh air. Welcome to Lark Brewing Co. The 6,500 square foot timber frame building features a brewery, a tasting room, and a gift shop. Outside, two timber frame pavilions and a pergola provide more gathering space. Coasters at the brewery proclaim that “there’s just something special about the way our beer tastes under these rafters. Take a sip. Let the flavor and the view mingle.” We have to agree! The third week of October marks National Forest Products Week, dedicated to recognizing the importance of our nation’s forests and the many goods they produce. We know how essential responsible forest management is, which is why we’re proud to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council? (FSC? C164575), an independent international organization devoted to setting standards for protecting the world’s forests. We feel it’s important to support an organization like FSC? because of our shared goal of protecting forests, a natural resource we cannot afford to deplete. Thanks to their efforts, forests will remain viable for generations to come. The Urban Artist Exchange Pavilion provides Wilmington's Lower East Side community with a gathering place to celebrate community and culture. The open structure consists of six unique glulam frames with large cantilevers and incremental rotation from one frame to the next. Each bay has a unique geometry, creating a striking visual. We integrated a combination of steel tubes and tension rods to resolve the lateral loads. Each material used in the structure was carefully selected to ensure the community would enjoy it for years to come. We used preservative-treated glulam, and hot-dip galvanized steel that protects against corrosion. The screening behind the performers is made from cypress, a light wood often used in outdoor structures due to its durability and water resistance. We were excited to work on such a unique structure, and look forward to seeing the many community events it will host! General contractor: EDiS Company Architect: Architectural Alliance, Inc.
