Microvascular Health Solutions announces a new study using GlycoCheck to research the effect of acute heparin administration on glycocalyx thickness and endothelial function in healthy younger adults. The study states that the endothelial glycocalyx’s role in modulating vascular endothelial dysfunction with aging and disease is becoming increasingly recognized. This study presents novel findings that acute heparin administration is not a feasible method to experimentally degrade the endothelial glycocalyx and measure concurrent changes in vascular endothelial function in healthy humans. This review elucidates the multifaceted nature of CLS, underscoring the importance of recognizing its diverse triggers, including systemic inflammation and endothelial barrier breakdown. CLS presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge in critical care due to its complex pathophysiology and the absence of standardized diagnostic criteria. Microvascular Health Solutions announces a new study using GlycoCheck to investigate whether dietary interventions, i.e. a fasting mimicking diet (FMD, Prolon?) or glycocalyx mimetic supplementation (EndocalyxTM) could stabilize microvascular function in Surinamese South-Asian patients with type 2 diabetes (SA-T2DM) in the Netherlands, a patient population more prone to develop vascular complications. These data suggest an interaction of compromised MV with repair mechanisms. The MVHS model predicts acute toxicity in BC/PC/HN pts proving (i) a quantitative relationship between MV state and radio-susceptibility and (ii) in an organ-agnostic way. The systemic functional information derived by the sublingual microscope could boost the personalization of predictive models and tailor them to the single-patient functional status. Microvascular Health Solutions announces a new study using GlycoCheck which is the first to investigate the effects of ascorbic acid on microcirculation during sepsis in humans using in vivo video microscopy. The study concluded that high-dose parenteral ascorbic acid tends to increase the proportion of perfused microvessels in the early period of sepsis and septic shock. Future studies with high-dose intravenous ascorbic acid would allow elucidating whether the cause of infection may influence changes in microcirculation and address the optimal timing and duration of administration. https://lnkd.in/gqCergVZ?

Microvascular Health Solutions announces a new study using GlycoCheck to evaluate the association between serum albumin levels and microcirculation changes, glycocalyx degradation, and the clinical outcomes of interest. The study concluded that in children with sepsis, an association was found between hypoalbuminemia and microcirculation changes, vascular permeability, and greater endothelial glycocalyx degradation. The study was conducted by the Athens Medical School and Attikon University Hospital in Greece. Endothelial glycocalyx (EG) derangement has been associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD is among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity among people living with HIV (PLWH), and HIV infection is now recognized as a major cardiovascular risk factor.
