Are you preparing a career development grant application (such as NIH K or VA CDA) for submission in February or June 2025? Join the K Writing Workshop program for valuable peer critiques and feedback from senior faculty who are experienced in NIH study section thinking. During this introductory three-part workshop, participants will exchange drafts of their proposals, so please be prepared to share your own proposal draft during the course of the workshop. Registration is required, and there is a fee of $156 for U-M registrants and $210 for others. (MICHR will provide a full refund to U-M registrants who pay by shortcode and attend all three sessions.) The workshop takes place on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. via Zoom. February 5 (specific aims), February 26 (candidate background), March 19 (career goals and objectives and career training plan). The registration deadline is January 6, 2025.

Scientific collaboration has become critical to advancing translational research. In particular, collaborations that span disciplinary boundaries, known as team science, can lead to scientific breakthroughs and impact that would not have been possible with siloed research approaches. “The pressing health issues we’re facing today are incredibly complex; addressing them requires engaging people across disciplines, fields, and professions. But getting these cross-disciplinary research efforts off the ground, while also ensuring the individual needs and goals of the team members are met, can be challenging,” says Beth LaPensee, PhD, MICHR’s managing director of research strategy. The goal of PACE dissemination grants is to share?Community-Engaged Research?(CEnR) results back to the community. Applications are due November 8, 2024.

Applications are now open for the MICHR K12, a mentored career development program designed to provide protected time for scientists to focus on conducting translational research. We want to receive applications from individuals from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in their fields. The types of science proposed in these awards are broad, as MICHR is not discipline or field-specific. We are also interested in applications that focus on health disparities, community-engaged research, or research across the lifespan.

Obtaining informed consent for research is a multifaceted obligation for researchers, and it is the foundation for the ethical practice of human subjects research. The standard one-sized fits all approach puts the researcher obligations front and center while relegating the prospective participant to a signature on a page. Join us and your peers in a half-day workshop where we will review research conducted with more complex protocols, populations, settings, and more, that can drive innovative informed consent approaches that are participant-centered and comply with regulatory requirements. Attendees of the workshop should come prepared for active participation during the workshop and will need to review provided material before attending. Advanced registration is required.
