Another year, another successful Drive Day! This past Sunday, the MSU Baja team came together for one of our favorite traditions: Drive Day! It was an incredible experience for both new and returning members who had the chance to drive one of our Baja cars on our very own track. From catching air on big jumps to intense close-call races, the day was packed with action. And of course, no Drive Day would be complete without amazing food cooked over a campfire! We're excited to share some highlights from this exciting day with all of you—check out these pictures! Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a success. Here’s to more thrilling drives and memories ahead!

In Baja SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), students are tasked with designing and building a single-seat, all-terrain sporting vehicle. Students function as a team to design, engineer, build, test, promote, and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules. Baja SAE challenges engineering students to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and in some competitions, water. As in real work situations, these future engineers work together as a team to discover and resolve technical challenges in design, test, and manufacturing, as well as business issues. The most rugged of all the SAE competitions, Baja SAE also gives students the first-hand challenge of pursuing their passion while managing real-life demands and priorities. Each team's goal is to design and build a prototype of an all-weather, rugged, single-seat, off-road recreational vehicle intended for sale to the nonprofessional weekend off-road enthusiast. Michigan State Baja Racing consists of a team of 40+ students who work year-round to create a competitive car to compete in SAE competitions.

?? Baja SAE Michigan Recap ?? From September 12th-15th, our team competed at the Baja SAE Michigan event at Holly Oaks ORV Park. After a tough 4-day competition, we secured an 18th place overall finish with solid performances in the dynamic events: ?? 7th – Acceleration ?? 7th – Maneuverability ?? 8th – Suspension & Traction The 4-hour endurance race kicked off with a strong start, where we held near 4th place for the first hour. Unfortunately, a major steering issue after our first fuel pit sidelined us for a time and later, fuel flow challenges further slowed us down, leading to a 27th place endurance finish. Despite this setback, we’re already back at it, with new designs and improvements in the works. We've proven that Chuck has what it takes to hang with the best and with more testing and refining, we're confident that next year we’ll be aiming for a top 10 finish! Stay tuned as we push towards the 2025 competition!

The Baja SAE Williamsport competition is over, and the results are in! Overall, MSU Baja achieved a 21st place finish out of over 100 teams in the largest Baja competition in recent years. The highlight of the competition was the endurance race where Chuck conquered the mud and hills of central Pennsylvania and posted an impressive 6th place finish. A real nail-biter of a race; our driver, Elijah Carey, held down 2nd & 3rd place until an unfortunate steering failure knocked us down to 6th. Additionally, we had a bit of an unlucky streak with technical inspection issues causing us to miss our suspension and traction run as well as a rollover just 5 feet from the finish line of the hill climb. With this in mind, the team can’t wait to show off the full capabilities of Chuck this September at the BAJA SAE Michigan competition.
