Although most Michigan farmers would prefer to staff locally, they cannot find enough hands to produce our food. That's where the H-2A guestworker program comes in. Unfortunately, the federally mandated wage rate for migrant workers has skyrocketed in recent years. This year for Michigan, it's $18.50 an hour, and that doesn't include transportation and housing costs that local farmers must also pay for, which balloons the total cost to about $30 an hour. That's leading farmers to cut production (or get out of farming altogether) and meaning we're relying more on imports for our produce. #michiganagriculture #protectourproduce

#WaterConservation is important to Michigan potato growers. That's why so many have partnered with Midwest Water Stewards to make sure they're being as efficient as possible. Thanks to Midwest Water Stewards for their great work in monitoring #waterusage at farms around the state. Give them a follow.
