It was wonderful seeing our reception cohosts Dean Stephen Durst (Ferris State), Dean Vicki Ellingrod (U-M) and Associate Dean Susan Davis (Wayne State). Thanks to all three colleges of pharmacy for their support!

MPA Director of Government Affairs Eric Roath testified today in the Senate Health Policy Committee in support of SB 107, which would require coverage of immunizations and point of care tests prescribed and administered by a pharmacist. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Sylvia Santana, is a follow-up to PA 97 of 2023, which expanded pharmacists' scope of practice to include immunizations and POCTs for influenza and COVID-19. The bill was reported from the committee with recommendation. It now moves on to the full Senate for approval.

Thanks to House Bills 5435 and 5436, signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in January, pharmacists in Michigan will soon be able to prescribe hormonal contraceptives — including birth control pills, emergency contraceptives, patches and vaginal rings! ?? This game-changing legislation increases access to birth control, making it easier and more convenient for people across the state. MPA is now working with LARA and the Board of Pharmacy to put the rules in place and bring this to life. Representing MPA at a ceremonial bill signing with the governor were MPA CEO Mark Glasper, Mary Beth O’Connell, Lisa Bade, David Bright, MPA Director of Government Affairs Eric Roath and MPA Chief Pharmacy Officer Farah Jalloul. We thank them for their hard work moving this important legislation onto the governor's desk! ?? More access. ? More convenience. ? More control over reproductive health. ?
