关于我们
The Overdose Prevention Engagement Network (OPEN) launched in October 2016 with support from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) Value Partnerships, and the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI) at the University of Michigan. The Overdose Prevention Engagement Network is a diverse team dedicated to improving lives and reducing harms of substance use. By engaging with individuals, communities, and organizations, we share education and resources to strengthen person-centered prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Stigma can be a major barrier to care for people with Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Stigma can lead to discrimination, shame, and isolation, affecting physical and mental health, access to care, adequate treatment support, and social support. Did you know that there are four different kinds of stigma? One kind of stigma is public stigma. Public stigma involves negative stereotypes about individuals with SUD, leading to widespread misconceptions. This stigma can discourage societal support for funding treatment programs and limit financial resources allocated for research into prevention and care for people with SUD. Remember during this holiday season that our words matter. Together, we can work towards a future where everyone is treated with respect and care, regardless of where they happen to be on their journey.
