Last week, our Community Crew celebrated 313 Day with a visit to Bennett Elementary School in Detroit to spread some joy and surprise K-5 classrooms with baskets full of school supplies. Since our founding nearly a century ago as Detroit Teachers Credit Union, supporting education has always been at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to continue investing in the city’s future by uplifting educators and ensuring young learners have the resources they need to succeed. Thank you to all the incredible teachers and school staff for everything you do! Your hard work and dedication don’t go unnoticed and we’re so grateful for you.

Last week, we brought the Detroit Pistons spirit to Stevenson Elementary School! Thanks to our partnership, we were able to surprise K-5 students with a visit from the official Mascot, Hooper. Stevenson Elementary is one of several local schools we’ve partnered with to provide student-run banking days. During this time, students get hands-on money management experience by stepping into the role of real bankers and working with other students to make deposits into real savings accounts. Beyond learning how a credit union operates, students develop smart saving habits, gain confidence in handling transactions, and participate in financial literacy discussions led by our team of experts. Thank you to our dedicated Stevenson student bankers for making finances fun and accessible for young savers!

Congratulations to the team at our Beltline branch on a successful ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning! We're excited to continue growing in the Grand Rapids community. We look forward to being able to serve even more members in this new, more visible location.

Michigan First was excited to once again join Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. to celebrate the 2025 World of Winter festivities. Our team had a blast at the Ice Park & Food Truck Rally, where visitors enjoyed frozen games, interactive ice sculptures, and local food trucks. While at Circus Wonderland, fire performances and acrobatics lit up the night! Despite the chilly temperatures at the events, our team had fun connecting with the local community and passing out “dry snow.” We are proud to be a partner and supporter of this event. Make sure to stop by downtown Grand Rapids before March 2 to check out the largest winter festival in the United States!

This past weekend we were proud to once again attend the Plymouth Ice Festival as presenting sponsor. From petting zoos to amazing sculptures, it was another incredible event for the southeast Michigan community. Jennifer Borowy, President/CEO, and Dan Sugg, Chief Mortgage Lending Officer, also had an opportunity to star as guest ice sculptors. With a quick tutorial and a whole lot of power tools, in the true spirit of Michigan "Firsts", they carved their first ice sculptures!

Congratulations to the team at our Jackson Meijer branch on a successful ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning! We look forward to serving even more members and making a positive impact in this new area.

At Michigan First, giving back to the communities we serve is at the heart of everything we do. This year, we are proud to have again partnered with Spaulding for Children, Downtown Boxing Gym, and Billy Bear Hug to spread some holiday cheer to families in need. Our team members joined together to shop for toys, clothes, and an assortment of other presents that were delivered to 50 local families! We hope that these families, as well as yours, have an amazing and safe holiday season.
