关于我们
Michigan Equity Research Club, also known as MERC, is a highly selective undergraduate student organization at the University of Michigan focused on building the technical and behavioral competence of our members to succeed in the world of finance. New members will be placed into a sector of their preference where they will conduct weekly research reports allowing them to be experts in their given sector by the end of the semester. Membership entails the mandatory attendance of bi-weekly meetings for new members (Associates). Throughout these associate meetings, new members will learn the essential knowledge to succeed in finance such as accounting basics, research strategies, components of equity research reports, and valuation methods. In the second weekly meeting, all active members will partake in in-depth market discussions, stock pitches, sector updates, and other interactive activities. After one semester in the club, associates are promoted to analyst or have the opportunity to apply for a role on the executive board. MERC offers a comprehensive opportunity for any student interested in equity research positions or in the world of finance.

Senior Spotlight: Andre Borde Major: Bachelor of Business Administration Prior Role in MERC: VP of Education Internship Experience: BNP Paribas, Investment Banking; Amazon, Software Engineering Post Graduation: Returning to BNP Paribas as an Investment Banking Analyst Hey everyone! My name is Andre Borde and I am a senior studying Engineering and Business. I joined MERC my Sophomore year during the winter semester because I was inspired by the passionate leadership and the vision they had to grow the club. Besides feeling that the club would let me explore my interests in equity research, I also felt like it was a great opportunity to get in on the ‘ground floor’ of something that could be big someday and I wanted to play a part in building it. During my internship with BNP Paribas M&A Investment Banking, I conducted industry research, built pitch decks, contributed on models, and sat in on client calls. Working alongside hardworking, motivated, and extremely intelligent people every day was incredibly inspiring. My favorite aspect of the position was learning something new every day and I am excited to return to the same team at BNP Paribas after graduation. I am very interested in music and in my free time I love listening to and creating it!?

Senior Spotlight: Eric Yang Major: Bachelor of Business Administration and Economics Prior Role in MERC: Head of Education and President Current Role in MERC: Senior Advisor Internship Experience: U.S. Bank, Corporate Finance Analyst; Plante Moran, Investment Research Analyst Hello! My name is Eric Yang, and I am a senior studying Business and Economics. I joined MERC in the first semester of my freshman year, which was its inaugural semester, so it has been very rewarding seeing so many people pass through and grow within the club. Throughout my time in the club, I have led the education, served as the President, and managed club logistics. Each position has provided me the opportunity to develop skills that have directly translated to the workplace. I joined MERC because of the unique culture and opportunity it provided me to explore possible career paths without any pressure to go down any specific path. The mentorship and guidance I received from upperclassmen at the time was also invaluable not only regarding the direction of my career, but also the soft skills like team leadership, presentation, and communication. This past summer, I was an Investment Research Analyst at Plante Moran where I conducted diligence on equities and fixed income strategies along with alternatives (VC and PE) to determine strong investment opportunities. After I graduate, I plan on returning full time to Plante Moran while studying to receive my CFA designation. Outside of academics, I love traveling, being out in nature, gardening, and playing tennis.
