We are on a mission to help Michigan become a state where the majority of working individuals are also employee owners.
关于我们
The Michigan Center for Employee Ownership (MICEO) seeks to grow employee owned businesses in Michigan by educational and other resources to business owners and their network of advisers. MICEO provides these resources via their website, social media, webinars, our own hosted or co-hosted sessions, or as an individual presentation within a regional or statewide conference. Employee Ownership can help business owners meet several goals or desired objectives such as: achieving a financially successful ownership transition (partial or full), provide the owner with some cash now with more to be received later (“take some chips off the table”), engage the employees in the operation by giving them an equity stake in the business, and/or maintain the company’s legacy in the community after the owner’s exit. Most business owners and their advisors aren’t fully aware of all the employee ownership options or advantages that they can receive by selling the business to their workers. We help these owners explore all the exit options. If employee ownership isn’t a good fit, they can move on to other options. If it is a good fit, we help them find the appropriate resources to make their business employee owned and enjoy a variety of benefits.

When Joe Wojciechowski - owner of Wojo's Greenhouse in Davison, #MI - thought about his exit strategy, he initially assumed a third-party sale was his only viable option. After talking with advisors, he settled on an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). This article is a great discussion of the common misconceptions that often deter business owners like him from considering an #ESOP. One common misconception is that creating an ESOP is "expensive and complicated." But according to Tim Jamison of Prairie Capital Advisors, Inc. (who advised Wojciechowski), “While there are setup and ongoing administrative costs, they’re often comparable or lower than the expenses involved in a third-party sale and often substantially less depending on the complexity of the sale.” The article concludes, "For horticulture business owners, the question isn’t just when to exit but how to do so in a way that preserves your life’s work and benefits everyone involved... As the industry grapples with challenges like declining valuations and market consolidation, ESOPs offer a compelling alternative." Read the article #HERE: https://lnkd.in/gXYpVa6U

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) Office of Rural Prosperity recently announced #MICEO as one of the recipients of a Rural Readiness grant. The Rural Readiness program is designed to help #rural communities build capacity, drive #economic development, and improve quality of life for residents. With this funding, MICEO will focus on the impact of #business ownership succession in rural #MI communities, helping build skills to identify potential “at-risk” businesses and offering tools and resources to guide business owners in starting the exit planning process to retain companies and jobs locally. "These investments make a real difference in people’s lives and will help us continue to make Michigan the best place to live, work and raise a family,” says Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
