Michelson Philanthropies co-chair Alya Michelson recently performed her new song ‘Hope’ at the 2024 Forbes 400 Summit On Philanthropy. Proceeds from the song, which calls for unity and collective action, will benefit UNICEF USA’s ongoing initiatives to support children throughout the world.

Michelson Laureates Claire Otero and Romain Guyon recently showcased their prize-winning research in immunology at a special Keystone Symposia on Molecular & Cellular Biology event in Ireland. The Michelson Prizes: Next Generation Grants have given researchers like Otero and Guyon the chance to pursue groundbreaking investigations while changing the trajectory of their careers. Earlier this year, Calstate partnered with the Michelson 20MM Foundation to launch the CSU Pregnant and Parenting Student Initiative. Since then, CSU institutions have started to offer new resources to support student parents—including a clothing store and diaper subscription service at California State University, Fresno. Mental health care is also crucial, as many women enter prison with a history of trauma, abuse, and other mental health disorders. First generation college students make up more than half of all undergraduates in the US, and over 80% of them have to work full or part time jobs to make ends meet. Michelson Philanthropies is proud to support the First Gen Fund, an organization providing first generation undergraduates with fellowships and essential resources - no red tape, no GPA threshold, no citizenship requirement, just direct support to students who need it.
