Los Angeles is taking its animal shelter overcrowding crisis seriously. The LA City Council is slated to consider two key pieces of the puzzle to solve this ongoing challenge in the coming months: 1. Increasing the #SpayAndNeuter voucher amount;?and 2. Mandating #microchips for the city’s dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits. Increasing the?city’s S&N voucher program?to a more sustainable rate will allow more veterinarians to participate, making spay and neuter services more affordable/accessible and reducing accidental litters that end up in LA’s shelters. Mandating microchips for the city’s pets?is a simple, affordable, and effective tool for reuniting lost pets with their families, keeping them with their loved ones and out of the city’s shelters. Together, these two policies have the potential to reshape LA’s approach to animal welfare with empathy and respect, addressing the city’s shelter overcrowding at its roots with sustainable solutions.?

We are pleased to see the Los Angeles City Council vote unanimously to prevent the eviction of renters solely for housing people or pets displaced by the LA wildfires. Our gratitude goes to Councilmembers Traci Park and Bob Blumenfield for introducing this important motion. Leslie A. was at today's meeting on behalf of Michelson Center for Public Policy to provide Pet-Inclusive Housing Initiative data highlighting the importance of keeping people and pets together during this period of displacement. This action is an inspiring step toward ensuring people and their pets remain together in housing. #PetInclusiveHousing #PeopleAndPetsTogether #LAWildfires

The DC Council has unanimously passed the Pets in Housing Act! This is a huge step forward for pet-inclusive housing, as it eliminates breed restrictions and sets a cap on pet rent – a move that will help keep people and pets out of unsafe living situations. #pets #housing #inclusivehousing
