For many Latinos, the line between multigenerational living and doubled-up homelessness is easily blurred, leaving people who are living with others as a means of survival to struggle to express what they're going through and find resources to help themselves and their families. We want to shed light on doubled-up homelessness so that those who are experiencing it can define it and not feel alone, and so that we can find and advocate for solutions. If you might have experience with doubled-up living, we want to hear from you. Share your story anonymously, sign up for our updates, and learn more ?? https://bit.ly/doubled-up Special thanks to Chicago Funders Together to End #Homelessness for supporting this project. #housingisahumanright #endhomelessness

#Healthequity includes access to the interventions and options that are right for everyone, regardless of their gender, sex, sexual identity, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, education, income level, or any other distinguishing characteristic. For women, this can start with a better understanding of and access to interventions that lead to the best health outcomes. Women face diverse challenges in #healthcare across various diseases and sectors of society, but their health is not a stand-alone issue—it’s a cornerstone of societal well-being and progress. When women have better health and well-being, it creates a ripple effect that benefits families, communities, and entire nations. By working to improve the health of those most affected by #systemicinequities, we can bridge the health gap and advance meaningful change.
??? As part of the 2023-2024 Chicago Area Schweitzer Fellowship, Sydney Cush, a third-year medical student at Northwestern University training to become an OB-GYN, is making strides in addressing health disparities in women’s healthcare. She recently participated in the "100 Latina Birthdays" podcast, where she discussed the challenges Latina women face in receiving an accurate diagnosis for endometriosis. Sydney explains, "Endo is so hard to diagnose because it looks different in every patient. Some individuals might experience no increased pain but have other symptoms, while others can't even get out of bed during their period." Her work, which includes research and community projects with Cook County Health, focuses on endometriosis and chronic pain in women of color. Sydney emphasizes the history of medical bias in diagnosing endometriosis: "Endometriosis has an incredibly racist beginning. It was originally defined as a condition that could only be had by well-off women... completely excluding Black and Latino women from that conversation." Listen to the podcast episode to learn more about how Sydney is advocating for equitable healthcare for Latina women and working to dismantle these longstanding disparities. ?? https://lnkd.in/gWYCWADE #SchweitzerFellow #HealthEquity #LatinaHealth #Endometriosis #WomensHealth

“Fuerza Mexicana: The Past, Present and Power of Mexicans in Chicagoland” is the first-of-its-kind report that examines Mexican history, identity and progress in #Chicago. The report highlights Chicago’s Mexican residents, the dominant group in 15 community areas, as a foundation of the region's low-wage #workforce and significant contributors to its economy and culture, documenting their shift from historic neighborhoods to other parts of the city. It also calls for policy changes to address #housing, business support, and voter participation to ensure the community's continued growth and recognition. The report was commissioned by a group of local organizations that serve the local Mexican community, including Latinos Progresando, Erie Neighborhood House, Greater Southwest Development Corporation, La Casa Norte, Mujeres Latinas en Acción and the National Museum of Mexican Art. #hispanicheritagemonth Read the full report: https://bit.ly/4eJogQL

?? Exciting News! ?? The Chicago City Council has passed a historic Northwest Side Housing Preservation Ordinance, promoting housing affordability and helping prevent displacement in Avondale, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, Logan Square, and West Town! ??? The funds generated by this ordinance will support the Chicago Housing Trust to construct, rehabilitate, and preserve affordable housing in our neighborhoods. A huge thank you to Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (Ward 35) for sponsoring the ordinance and for creating the images we are sharing in our post. We at Center for Changing Lives were honored to have signed on as a community supporter for this important ordinance. We are ecstatic about this good news and will continue to work against the displacement of our legacy families ! ?? ??Learn more about this vital ordinance and its impact: linktr.ee/cclchicago ??
