Happy Friday! As PIOD closes out this week’s celebration of women in construction, today we’re recognizing Sally Contreras, Program Management Manager in the department’s Design, Construction, and Renovation Services Division. In her own words, here is Sally on her service in the field: After years of managing programs and projects for non-for-profits in the community, I chose a role within the County to make an impact on organizational goals that would positively affect both staff and the public. As a Program Management Manager, I supervise large capital projects, multi-year capital budgets, and renovation projects to ensure that facilities providing public services are safe, appropriately maintained, and kept in good repair by. In addition, I work on new construction projects as part of major capital investments by Miami-Dade County. My favorite aspect of my role is developing strong leadership skills, managing diverse teams, assessing risks, and communicating with stakeholders.

As PIOD continues this week’s celebration of women in construction, today we’d like to recognize our colleague, Marlene Blanco, who is a Program Management Manager in the department’s Design, Construction, and Renovation Services Division. In her own words, here is what inspires Marlene’s work in the field: For the past fifteen years, I have been dedicated to the construction profession with a passion for creating lasting, functional spaces that serve Miami-Dade communities. I find great fulfillment in projects that contribute to lasting experiences, whether it’s new offices, libraries, and park upgrades, or our continuous improvement and innovation of PIOD facilities. All enhance the daily lives of countless individuals and motivate my service, which is about advancing solutions, excellence, and creativity in the industry.

This week, PIOD is recognizing the contributions of women in construction, a field historically limited to men. Every day, the determination, talent, and accomplishments of trailblazing women help make the field stronger and more dynamic, all while opening the door to others. One such construction professional, Aundria Blatch, is a Program Management Manager in PIOD’s Design, Construction, and Renovation Services Division. Here is Aundria in her own words on what inspired her to enter the field: I have always been fascinated with the subjects of math and science. As a child, taking things apart and putting them back together to see the function of how they worked is what drew me to engineering. As I learned more about electrical engineering and the purpose of power, the construction industry was the path to engage my problem-solving skills. It brings great joy to use these skills to help design, build, and manage projects for the community.
