Alongside Southern Style Marketing/SouthPromo.com and Cox Media Group, MDCR helped provide 800 families with turkeys, fresh groceries, and hot meals to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the community we proudly serve!

The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) operates one of the largest correctional systems in the United States. We are responsible for the care, custody and control of between 4,000 to 4,200 persons incarcerated in our detention facilities awaiting trial, serving sentences of 364 days or less. Our Re-Entry and Program Services Bureau helps inmates successfully transition back into the community. Various programs, including mental health counseling, peer support, and Jail Diversion Programs, offer our inmate population avenues to success. Our inmate medical services follow professional standards of care that provide proper treatment for individuals with medical or mental health issues. Our Boot Camp Program (BCP) is focused on reducing jail crowding and the recidivism rate among youthful offenders. Youths ranging from 14 to 24 years of age have the opportunity to undergo this program once sentenced by a judge. The curriculum involves a para-military style schedule, accompanied by classroom education and work programs in hopes that a new life can be achieved by these individuals. Mission Statement The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department strives to provide safe, secure and humane detention of individuals in our custody while preparing them for a successful return to the community.

To strengthen the bond with our law enforcement partners, #MDCR hosted a roundtable discussion with the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police. This insightful event brought together Chiefs and Command Staff from various agencies for a tour of our Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. They also received a comprehensive overview of our intake process, health services and inmate classification procedures, enhancing collaboration and fostering mutual understanding.

Today, #MDCR partnered with Share Your Heart to distribute holiday boxes to several families of our inmate population. These boxes provide everything needed for a delicious Thanksgiving meal, allowing the families to come together and celebrate the season.

#MDCR joined forces with the Miami-Dade Police Department to host a special Career Day at our Headquarters for the Littles of our Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami program! Littles were able to hear from US Navy, US Army, and U.S. Coast Guard recruiters, as well as advisors from Miami Dade College and CareerSource Florida. They spent quality time connecting with their Bigs while exploring exciting career paths to help shape their future after graduation!

From roasting delicious pigs to connecting with the community, our staff was proud to support this incredible event benefiting the Love Fund, which provides assistance to fallen officers and their families.
