Now that the kids are back to school, my working year has officially started! As I reflect on 2023—my first since retiring from the Air Force—I'm filled with gratitude and a sense of accomplishment. Transitioning from active duty was harder than I expected, but God is great, and overall, this year marked the start of several exciting chapters in my life: ? Professional Leap: Launching my own LLC was a thrilling step into the world of consulting. Successfully closed a few projects and learned a ton! I truly appreciate the challenges and rewards that come with entrepreneurship. ? Education & Advocacy: Embarking on a doctorate degree at FIU Chapman Graduate School of Business while focusing on Latin America and women's leadership has been a profound journey. I also had the privilege to teach and speak on women, peace and security (#WPS), as well as international relations. My trips with the Organización de los Estados Americanos (#OAS) to Colombia and with #DOD to Mexico to speak at FAMEX were absolute highlights! Thank you Ver?nica Alonso and Catherine Lantigua, PhD for your trust! And so many others fantastic engagements and opportunities: Inter-American Defense Board, United States Institute of Peace, FIU Jack D Gordon Institute for Public Policy, Institute for Security Governance, Florida State University, HSBC, Women In International Security (WIIS), Defense Security Cooperation University. ? Personal Development: 2023 was enriched by attending RALM3 Consulting Mastermind (Luba Sakharuk rocks!) and (finally) earning my certification with John Maxwell Team as a pro speaker and trainer. These experiences have been pivotal in my personal growth journey. The best!!!! ? Community & Veterans (these folks helped me find a renewed sense of belonging): Engaging locally with WOVA (linda hugley), South Dade Women's Veteran Alliance (Julie Robison), The Mission Continues, and the Miami-Dade Military Museum and Memorial as the curator for the "Women in Service" permanent exhibit. Also, joined Team Rubicon and cheered for some of my favorite NGO’s: Third Wave Volunteers (Dr. Alison Thompson) and Connected Warriors (Judy Weaver). Thanks to Steve Turner AAMS? for being my partner in crime as our entire family works together to give a little back. ? New Initiative: Founded "Boots, Pens, and Mics" for women veterans in partnership with my incredible and action-oriented friend Amanda Huffman. (yes, let's keep writing!) ? And the surprise of a lifetime... being recognized by the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium as Local Legend… Someone, please pinch me! ? This year has been immensely satisfying. Less stress and way more quality time with my family! While I cherish my journey in the military, the autonomy, family time, and personal growth I've experienced in this new chapter are truly rewarding. ? Here's to a year of transitions, learning, and growth. Excited to see what 2024 brings! #2024
