Proud moment for MiLA Lab! Our own Brhea D'Mello took first place at the MIT AI Negotiation Competition. Congrats Brhea! ??
This weekend I had the incredible opportunity to attend the AI Negotiation Summit in Boston hosted by The Program on Negotiation, where top professionals from around the world explored the intersection of AI and negotiation. I was invited after my bot won first place overall in the MIT AI Negotiation Competition. I built and refined my bot using chain-of-thought prompting in a sandbox environment, testing multiple variations against each other. Over multiple rounds, I incorporated top negotiation techniques, as well as insights from Professor Dennis Klein’s amazing Mediation class. It was surreal to hear my work discussed at the summit. The competition brought together 200 participants from 40+ countries, with the bots competing in a quarter-million negotiations to optimize value creation, value claiming, and subjective value. Huge thanks to Dr. Or Cohen-Sasson for encouraging me to explore this opportunity and Jared Curhan for organizing such an inspiring competition. Excited to continue using my background in computer engineering in the legal AI space!

Why is it critical for lawyers to understand the limits of AI as they begin incorporating the technology into their work? MiLA Director Dr. Or Cohen-Sasson answers this question and more? in The American Lawyer journalist Jon Campisi’s two-part series discussing the practical implementation of artificial intelligence into both Big Law and the law industry as a whole. A pioneer in this field, Dr. Cohen-Sasson leads MiLA’s efforts to educate current and future lawyers on the responsible and effective use of AI in their work, while also overseeing the lab’s ongoing development of AI technologies for legal professionals. While AI poses potential risks, such as possible bias, it also offers solutions to some of the legal profession's most pressing challenges.
