MI4People is an NPO that empowers Public Good with Machine Intelligence!
关于我们
MI4People is a nonprofit organization that fosters utilization of Machine Intelligence (MI) for Public Good through applied research. We understand MI as the ability of machines to help solve real-world problems in a data-driven manner using suitable combinations of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, robotic process automation, and process mining. We collaborate with nonprofit organizations and scientists working for Public Good to identify important problems to research on and to find solutions benefiting Public Good using MI. Together with our partners we create and execute the MI research projects, take care of project financing, share project results broadly in the public domain and explore ways to best leverage the project outcome.

??How can we truly understand AI’s potential in tackling climate change if we never give it a shot? Well – we did! ? Last week, the European Climate Foundation hosted the GenAI Hackathon for Climate Change Policy Advocacy, and our AI expert Dr. Denis Dali? got together with an incredible team of experts: Vincent Matton, Laurent Compère, Pawe? Czy?ak, PhD, and Sylvain Franc de Ferrière ? Together they developed a tool to tackle one of four critical climate challenges – specifically, identifying project-relevant metrics. ? ??Their tool impressed the jury and came in first place. This December, they’ll advance their project and compete for substantial funding to bring their vision to life. Stay tuned!?

?? Exploring AI in Public Safety: A Balancing Act of Potential and Dystopia ?? Artificial intelligence is reshaping how cities approach public safety, with tools like predictive crime models, real-time surveillance, and anomaly detection offering impressive improvements. ?? In cities from Singapore to Rio de Janeiro, AI-driven solutions are already helping reduce crime, improve response times, and optimize limited resources. The ability to detect suspicious activities and even prevent crime before it happens is a major breakthrough. Yet, as AI becomes more embedded in public safety, critical challenges emerge. Issues around data privacy, potential bias, and the risk of over-surveillance are enormously significant. In places like Xinjiang, China, or with Live Facial Recognition (LFR) in the UK, the line between security and civil liberties can blur, raising major concerns about human rights and potential discrimination. ???? So, how do we harness AI’s potential in public safety without compromising ethics? ?? Transparency, robust regulations, and continuous inclusive public discourse are crucial to ensure AI in policing respects rights, limits bias and promotes trust. What do you think?about this difficult and delicate topic? ?? #AI #PublicSafety #PrivacyMatters #SmartCities #EthicsInTech

???? The next steps for our Marine Litter Project are underway! ? Thanks to Bechtle's support, we can accelerate the development and process satellite images faster and more efficiently, bringing us closer to our goal of detecting plastic and marine litter in (almost) real-time. They will provide computing power, including an NVIDIA A100 GPU with 80GB RAM (which we couldn’t have funded on our own). ? The AI/ML-powered Computer Vision system will identify location and size of floating plastic and other debris in oceans. As an open-access tool, it will be available to researchers, environmentalists, activists, authorities, and other organizations, helping them to combat marine pollution on a global scale. ? Huge thanks to Martin Koch, Jannick Link, Torsten Schr?der, Matthias Meyer, Torsten Welke, Florian Hempel, Daniel R?ding, Holger Wulfers, Oliver Wohlgethan, Michael Sü? for your support!

This was in fact a blast and important step for MI4People on the way to recognition and awareness of #AIfotGood in Germany. Our speakers Dr. Denis Dali? and Dr. Paul Springer have met and talked to many representatives from industry, politics and civil society and could promote potentials and strengths of AI for Public Good!
Once again, this year’s #DigitalGipfel2024 in Frankfurt was a blast! Many great talks, topics, and speakers from politics, enterprises and civil society all across Germany! As one could expect, the main topics were digitization, infrastructure and AI, especially AI. And I’m extremely happy that #AIforGood was also covered as an integrational part of AI-driven transformation in Germany and Europe. And the best??????: Dr. Denis Dali? and I could also pitch one of MI4People’s projects (marine litter detection with AI via satellites???????) in front of the great public what had led to many great discussions and exchange with various actors. Many thanks to Civic Coding – Innovationsnetz KI für das Gemeinwohl for organization and inviting us and 11 other AI4Good projects (which are BTW all really cool ??)! And many thanks for great discussions and exchanges goes to Katarina Perani? , Philipp Berg, Tobias Federwisch, Holger Holland, Noah-Levin Damschke, Sarah Langnese, Kai Arne Krutzke, Mareen Lee, Gabriele Dederer, Woldemar Metzler, Matthias Mafenbeier, Michael Marquardt, and many others!?????? Hope to see you next year again!
