Congratulations to mHUB Member NETenergy on their $2M Award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Kudos to Founder & CEO Said Al-Hallaj, COO Monica Cook, Chemical Engineer Yana Galazutdinova, and R&D Engineer Ruby-Jean Clark. NETenergy seeks to develop, model, validate, and test a high-efficiency closed-loop hybrid CO2 heat pump-thermochemical system (TCM) that can replace existing gas boilers without replacing the existing hydronic distribution system. The proposed concept avoids costly replacement of hydronic distribution systems and offers manufacturers a drop-in replacement for the central gas boiler system in multifamily, commercial buildings, and district systems. The TCM material will be selected and characterized in collaboration with Berkeley National Lab. Spraying Systems will develop a CFD model in partnership with NETenergy to design and build a scaled-up TCM reactor. The reactor consists of the TCM graphite block, water tank, spray nozzle for humidification, and air flow system. The system will be then integrated in partnership with Trane and tested with a hardware-in-the-loop CO2 heat pump emulator at National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Read the full press release. mHUB in partnership with Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce (GECC) was awarded the next phase, the Progress Phase, of the US Dept Of Energy American-Made Community Energy Innovation Prize. mHUB partnered with GECC to create the Clean Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) to support manufacturing-based innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation in cleantech with a specific focus on energy infrastructure for grid modernization. The goal of CTIN is to further reduce barriers to clean energy entrepreneurship and manufacturing pathways to create new intellectual property and jobs while growing domestic manufacturing and a diverse skilled workforce. CTIN will utilize this $100K prize to continue recruiting and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and skilled workers as they seek career change and provide them with the workforce and business training to launch careers in the clean energy manufacturing sector.
