The MHARS Board of Lorain County was established in July 2019, bringing together the expertise, resources, and proud histories of the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Lorain County (ADAS), founded in 1989, and the Lorain County Board of Mental Health (LCBMH), founded in 1967. The MHARS Board is the local authority for planning, funding and monitoring behavioral health services in Lorain County, Ohio.

They often sacrifice time with their families, their physical health and well-being, and all too often, their mental health.?Using Bi-Partisan Safer Communities Act funding, we are pleased to announce free training for community-based licensed clinicians to prepare them to provide services to first responders (law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch/communications, and local corrections) and their families.? Participants must be a licensed counselor, social worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, psychologist, or Chemical Dependency Counselor.?Graduate students in social work, psychology, and counseling may apply to attend.?

This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. It focuses on the unique experiences and needs of public safety personnel and is a valuable resource that can make a difference in their lives, their coworkers’ and families’ lives, and the communities they serve.

International Overdose Awareness Day (IODA) is the world’s largest campaign to end overdose. This is a global day of action and remembers those that have died and acknowledges the profound grief of those left behind. IOAD also works to breakdown the stigma surrounding drug use and overdose. The Lorain County Opiate Action Team (LCOAT) is supporting the day by hosting a Memorial Event of the 118 Lives Lost in 2023 in Lorain County. There will be speaker and advocate John Nimmo, inspirational music and words from Chrissy Strong, artist/singer Matt Radel-LUV, a video of speakers from the recovery community, and a Sound Bath Meditation. There will also be 30 provider resource tables, and Narcan training with Free Narcan kits available. *Wear Purple. *Families and Friends are welcome to bring a photograph of their loved one to include on the Memorial Table. (5”x 7” frames will be provided We hope to see you at this event!
