Rhode Island joined the growing state effort to regulate PFAS in consumer products with the passage of the Consumer PFAS Ban Act of 2024. Beginning January 1, 2027, the Act will prohibit the manufacture, use and distribution of certain products with intentionally added PFAS, with broader restrictions potentially taking effect by 2029. The law also includes certification requirements for manufacturers and an earlier January 1, 2025 ban on PFAS-containing Class B firefighting foam.
